georgia baptist nursing school

Published

hello. i'm from atlanta and have recently been accepted by georgia baptist. i'm still waiting on letters from kennesaw, brenau, and north georgia. does anyone have any feedback about any of these schools, especially current student??/

Well, I got accepted to NGCSU -- but for their "Alpharetta/Cumming location." Does anyone know specifically where this might be in Alpharetta or Cumming?

Thanks for your input.

I believe it's anywhere between exit 10 and 13 on 400 north. About 20 min.- 30 minutes north of where 285 and 400 meet. Congratulations! But it sounds like your concerned on the distance. They put me on a waiting list for the same campus. However, that campus would be perfect for me. I knew it was bad the minute I saw the skinny little envalope in the mailbox. :crying2: Now I need to decide between the two I did get accepted to: GPC and GBC. I've heard bad things about GPC and GBC is too expensive. Hmmmmmmmmmm, what to do??

Hi, Sheri.

Thanks for the info on NGCSU. My house is currently on the market, anyway, and we had already decided we were moving -- just weren't sure exactly where in metro Atlanta. (Hubbie and I are both just ready for a change...). Maybe I'll start looking online in Cumming...don't know if I can afford to live in Alpharetta (lol), but maybe Cumming would put me close enough to NGCSU.

I'm sorry about the waiting list for NGCSU -- I totally sympathize. (Like I said earlier -- I'm now on the waiting list for KSU, too.) It's very frustrating. But, if you got accepted to Georgia Baptist? Then that's where I'd try to go. (I wish I had gotten accepted to Georgia Baptist! That's awesome!!!)

I know money is the issue with me, about GBC. But, have you thought about looking into the service cancellable loans sponsored through the state? Not sure of the specific details, but I am applying for this at NGCSU or KSU (if I get in). I know you have to fill out a GFSFA (sp?) application online, first -- then specifically apply through your school's financial aid office for the service cancellable loan, itself. You can't apply until you have an acceptance letter in hand (which you now do from GBC). The funds are first come, first serve. I think the state doesn't allocate funds to each participating university until May 1st -- but you want to have everything all ready before that time. I don't think it's like traditional financial aid -- it's not necessarily "need based." There are some basic criteria you have to meet, but nothing huge. You simply apply for the loan, the state pays for your tuition because of the nursing shortage in Georgia, and then you agree to work within the state to "pay back" your loan. Each year working fulltime as an R.N. pays back one year's worth of school (all of this is just from what I understand...please check with GBC's financial aid office to verify everything -- I don't want to tell you something incorrectly.)

Anyway, it might be a solution to your problem.

I wouldn't even consider GPC -- from the posts I've read here. It doesn't sound like they want their students to succeed. I'm sure some people attending GPC are very happy -- but I haven't run across too many. (Not trying to slam GPC. :) )

I just think that Georgia Baptist is such a highly reputable school. The other thing to consider is that I have heard that the program at Georgia Baptist is slightly longer for the BSN program. (Three years?) Not sure. Check into that, too. That might be a consideration, as well.

Good luck! Let me know how it goes... :)

Well I got my two letters of regret today. BooHoo! I can't believe North Georgia sent me two letters. Actually each one said that I had been put on the waiting list for the new Alpharetta campus and also the main campus. I am wondering if they tell everyone who doesn't make it in, that they are on the waiting list. HMMMM something to think about. I knew I probably wouldn't get in I am just now in A&P 1. I just thought I would try anyway. If I were accepted to Georgia Baptist I would do that in a heartbeat. I am going to apply to about 4 school next year. My pre and co-reqs will be done then.

Thanks for the info. on service cancellable loans. I will definately look into that! And yes GBC is 3 years (uugghhh!) Good luck house hunting in Alpharetta. I know it's expensive, we're thinking of buying a townhouse before the end of the year there but the taxes are ridiculous from what I hear.

Congrats Atlanta 6789 on your acceptance to NGCSU!! I'm finishing up my first year there and I love it!! This Alpharetta/Cumming campus is a new one on me - I was told that it replaced the Windy Hill Campus. I live in Alpharetta, and I have no idea where this campus is supposed to be. I will ask on Monday when I go back to school and see if I can find out the exact location. On the househunting note - I have an Alpharetta address, but live in Forsyth County where the taxes are much, much cheaper. It's not a far drive for when we all have to meet at the Dahlonega campus, and it's about the same distance to the Gainesville Campus where I attend. I wish they had the Cumming/Alpharetta location when I started!!! Anyway, houses in Forsyth County are really going up in price, but you can still find some reasonable prices in the Central to North part of the County. Let me know if you need any more info about the area!! See you at "I Can" camp in August!! :balloons:

Thanks, Eagle Girl, for the encouragement and congratulations. It's from reading some of your posts, actually, that made me get so excited about NGCSU! It was so nice to hear that someone really loves their program -- it makes me want to go there, too! I've read nothing but good things about NGCSU -- and now I really just can't wait for August. I'd love to hear more (if you don't mind sharing) about your first year in Gainesville -- feel free to PM me if you get an opportunity. I don't know what to expect as far as classes and clinicals (i.e. days, hours, etc.) -- any and all info you care to pass on would be greatly, greatly appreciated!!! :)

As far as the house situation, thanks also for the advice. I think Hubbie and I will take a little daytrip to Forsyth, tomorrow (with three 'munchkins' in tow), try to look at some houses, and try to get a general 'feel' for the Cumming/Alpharetta area. I really wish I knew exactly where the new campus will be -- if you find out, would you please let me know? (I meant to call NGCSU, today, to get an actual street address, but got distracted...)

Anyway, I appreciate all of the support and encouragement you've given to myself and others on the board. Hopefully, we can all learn from each other -- what a great support system! :nurse:

Eagle Girl, you seem to be the resident expert on NGCSU Gainesville and like the previous poster, I'd love any info you can give me on what to expect the first semester. Days you were in school, hours, what I will need. I'm so excited!

Bye the way, I live in North Forsyth County and am only 12 miles from the Gainesville Campus and 23 or so from the Dahlonega one. I'd be glad to help out with any info on subdivisions in this area for Atlanta6789.

Thanks!!

Lisa

I called the school yesterday and was told that they have not decided on a building yet but it will be in the general area of Cumming\Alpharetta.

Hi, I was also accepted in NGCU, and waiting for a letter from Floyd, anybody received anything yet? and which one is a better school?

I have heard that Floyd is good and their NClEX scores are near perfect. I also heard from a couple of RNs that went there that it is very hard. Personally I think it's going to be "hard" no matter where we go but its still something that scares me a little about Floyd. I'm also waiting to hear from them.

I have 3 kids and wonder if I will be able to commute to Cummings or Rome whichever I choose - they are both an hour from my house in Woodstock. I have very little time to decide which school. I would appreciate any inputs.

Sheri, do I know you? Did you take a Micro at Chattahoochee Jan.- Mar.?

Shukry - which campus did you get accepted to? If it is the Alpharetta/Cumming campus, I read here that they haven't announced a location, but it may be at the Lanier Tech campus which is off of Exit 13 on 400. About 15 mins north of 285 - well that is 15 mins with no . Good luck to you in what ever you decide.
