Hey Evreyone! I just wanted to get a thread started for those who applies for GBCON's incoming class for fall 2014! I applied just last week and I'm excited to hear back from them! Has anyone else applied or heard back? If you don't mind sharing your stats as well (Teas, GPA) that'd be great too! I applied with a 3.35 and an 81.3 on my TEAS but I think I wrote a really good essay so hopefully that helps some too! I'm also thinking about retaking my TEAS.... I'd love to hear back from you all as we start this process! Thanks and good luck to you all!
You'll receive instructions on how to order your nurse pack, which includes all the medical supplies you need for campus clinical and validations. I believe the first semester pack was $75 if you ordered it early at the discounted rate. You also need a stethoscope, which you can order through the school at orientation or independently. Most people bought the MDI steths through the school, but I and a few others went with the Littman Classic II, which I got on amazon for $65. Some students bought a manual blood pressure cuff as well for practice. If you order the stethoscopes through the school, I think you can get a bundle deal with a cuff through MDI. I bought mine separately from MedLine for about $35. Hope that helps!
For class...you'll need a printer and computer access for sure, since your patho-pharm lectures will be pre-recorded online. Get some comfortable headphones and a ton of highlighters :)

Bravera:
Will we be told about the nurse pack during orientation? Also, are we allowed to bring voice recorders to class...for recording lectures that are not pre-recorded through Moodle etc.?
I am confused about the Heb B vaccines... I have had the series of 3 shots back in 2002? is that enough or do i need another series? I saw series 1 and 2 on the form. also? what exactly is a titer?
A titer is when they draw blood to test for your immunity. A vaccine is when they stick with the needle. They are requiring titers now for Varicella and Hep B. You are not required to have the vaccine again because you have already had it. But they will need to draw blood to test your immunity (titer). Don't worry about series 1 and 2 just yet. You won't have to worry about that until your results from the lab return. If your results come back negative, then you will have to go further with the series. If you test positive for immunity then you will be fine and the titer will suffice :)
Hope this helps!!
Professor Kamp will either give you information at orientation or during the first week of classes about nurse packs, since she's dependent on the company that ships them. And yes, the other professors don't mind if you record at all! They keep a table at the front of the class by the podium for you to put recorders on. Laptops and everything are fine as well, and each seat has an outlet for you to plug into.

Thank you, Bravera! I appreciate it :)

Thanks! That is very helpful.
Can someone provide me with a list of important dates before school starts this fall that I need to plan around? I am trying to plan a family vacation and I want to make sure I do not conflict with any meetings or orientations. I have not received any of that info due to my delayed admission.
May 29 is the first orientation date. Can't remember the second date.
August 9th/16th are CPR courses.
White Coat Ceremony is August 14th @ 10am
Registration will be some time in May. Spoke with admissions and I was told they will send us an email when it is time.
So far those are the only things I have been notified on.
The second orientation is July 17th. Also, I believe you can take the CPR class anywhere, as long as it is BLS/Healthcare Provider if neither of the GBCN dates work for you. All the medical stuff (immunizations, etc) must be done before July 10th. I think Meechka covered everything else. :) If there is any other info you are missing, don't hesitate to ask!

I hope it's before orientation! At least before the August orientation anyway, that's fairly close to the start of classes!
