Georgetown U. Accelerated BSN - Spring 2010

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hi Everyone,

I just submitted my application for Georgetown's Accelerated BSN starting Spring 2010 and I just wanted to open a post for anyone else that has applied as well.

Specializes in ICU / PCU / Telemetry / Oncology.

I'm not a spring applicant, but I'm probably considering Fall 2010 or even Spring 2011 depending on whether I get into my 1st choice school and whether I will need to complete those prereqs that no one else needs (philosophy, nutrition).

Either way, I'd be interested to see how this thread goes, good luck!

What is your first choice school if you dont mind me asking? Part of the reason I am applying to Georgetown if that it starts in the Spring and there is an option for a work scholarship with the Washington Hospital Center. In terms of pre-reqs, they did change the number required to get it recently and threw a little curve in my schedule but as it turns out I am taking Biomedical Ethics in the fall to fulfill it. Nutrition I am already taking and all the schools I've looked at required it.

I definately want to hear about any other MD/DC/VA schools that have Spring start dates that application deadline is not Aug 1. Also, would look at Philly and NYC.

Sure -- my 1st choice is Columbia. I eventually want to do my MSN there, but I would not mind going elsewhere for my BSN if I had to, especially Georgetown and the draw for me is also the WHC scholarship. Was happy to see that WHC has a renowned NICU which is my specialty goal. Georgetown admits in the fall and spring semesters so that's a plus also for me, knowing I don't have to wait a year to reapply if necessary.

Specializes in MED SURG.

That is an awsome school I wanted to go there but I got married now I am in Tx going to Lamar. Good Luck:D

I will probably be applying for Fall 2010. I'm still working on pre-requisites. I'm also considering other schools, as well. Although the scholarship through WHC sounds great, I'll soon be an empty-nester and there won't be anything tying me to the area anymore. All my family, including an adult son, live west of the Mississippi and I'm not sure I'd want to stay in the area for the years I'd need to give to WHC. Also, even after the scholarship, with Georgetown's steep tuition, there's quite a bit left over to pay plus living expenses, etc. Since I have to support myself, I'm not sure how I'd do it. I'm also considering UMB's accelerated BSN and CNL programs and MC's ADN program. Although I'd rather make use of my bachelor's degree, I'm not averse to getting the ADN, then getting my BSN online and having my employer help pay for it. I just have to balance out my financial situation with long term and short term goals. Good luck on your application!!

I also applied for Spring 2010. Good Luck! I am really nervous...

I applied for Spring 2010!

I am nervous/excited! Can't wait to find out! Has anyone heard anything?

I haven't heard anything yet. The server for my email has been down and just booted back up today so I'm not sure if they sent out the scholarship application. Let me know if they did!

where is everyone who applied? there has to be tons of applicants, where is everyone! we should be hearing things soon!

Do any of you know anything about the average GPA of applicants accepted for an interview? I am going to apply for Fall 2010 and don't know how good (or bad) my chances are of getting in. I am trying to be realistic but I can't find any info on the traditional program that they offer. What are their prerequisites for admission into the traditional BSN program?

A question for those of you who applied: I know the WHC scholarship covers 80% of the tuition, but what are your plans to pay the remaining balance and costs of living? It appears that the remaining 20% would be about $8,000 then there's rent, food, transportation, etc. That's a lot of money to finish coming up with. And DC is not an inexpensive place to live. I'm still considering it - just wondering how I would be able to afford it.
