  1. I will be attending Georgetown in 4 weeks and I am also a WHC scholar. I'm sure I don't have as much info as Tammy G and she is already in the program. From what I know WHC has 42 scholarships to give out max and I believe there are about 35 in my incoming cohort. You have to write an additional essay for the scholarship which they said they weighed heavily on. They also do conduct a group discussion session during the interview process. You go on a tour of the hospital and they basically ask everyone why/when/how they decided to become a nurse. It is informal but since you are speaking in front of admission members what you say can count. There are also WHC people who sit in on the admission board during your actual Georgetown interview to both wiegh in on your admission to the school (since you will doing alot of clinical at WHC regardless of the scholarship) as well as to get to know you a little better for the scholarship. I also agree with LillyBean. I have found everyone at Georgetown to be nothing but helpful and considerate from asking questions about pre-reqs before I even applied to advising on classes now that I am attending. The interview was comfortable (as much as an interview can be), they were very friendly and open and I feel very comfortable knowing that any question I have now will be answered.
  2. oh and if when you register for nurs070 and it says clinical is tue 7am-5pm it doesnt necessarily mean it will be that time?
  3. thanks for the insight jerseyjess! I am a scholar who will be starting in 4 weeks! I definately identify with your pros and cons list. The money and job security were obviously big factors in my decision. And i was also a little concern about no pediatrics because that is an area i am interested in. But i look at it like I have a whole career ahead of me and can always make a switch down the road. Plus they do have a NICU and while I am sure its highly competitive, its something to work toward even after a year or two. i working on picking out my schedule now. any advice on theology/philosophy electives? and what were your avg. cost for books a semester? thanks!
  4. Got an email from the advisor. Yay!
  5. Hi Everyone-Thought I would weigh in on the acceptance debate as I am beginning to feel a bit lucky to have gotten in. Beach It my GPA is comparable to yours. I have A's in all the prerequisites I have taken since deciding to go back to school and most from my undergraduate degree. (I think I had a B in English and maybe chem.) I personally dont have any formal experience (aside from an internship in the NICU in HS) I did start volunteering at Johns Hopkins Bayview but not before I applied. I did mention that at my interview though. My experience is mostly in the service industry which they seemed more impressed with than anything as I was pretty involved in training and development but I also I think because I talk a good talk about service in Nursing (which isnt actually "talk" I just mean I was pretty confident about that part of my interview) Other than that they referenced my personal statement alot. So I assuming that has something to do with it. And there are also recommendations. We are never going to know how they judge what our recommendations say or our personal statements for that matter. Those are the subjective factors that we just don't know how they are weighted. Someone earlier in this post suggested reaching out to state your interest in being an alternate. I don't know if they have a traditional waitlist but I am sure not everyone accepted will attend. Out of the 50 or people accepted we're only representative of about 6 or 7. On another note, has anyone received any additional info yet? I know i asked this question early but I have this fear that they are going to come back to me and they oops we sent you the wrong email...sorry, you didn' make the cut. Also, I submitted my Scholars essay tonight. A bit late in the day but I had to work pretty late. I hope I was able to pull off something inspiring enough to take a chance on me! I'm sure we'll all be crossing our fingers. Then maybe I can breathe a little. It's been a long two weeks!
  6. It seems like a lot of people applied to Marymount. I didn;t even know about their program until recently. Maybe because I am from Baltimore so I wasn't really looking at VA schools. I dont know! Anyway, I'm not sure about Catholic either. I think that is only fall. GWU has a very new program in the fall as well. Crossing my fingers on WHC. Congrats for your acceptance to Marymount and hopefully we'll hear soon. It could certainly change a few things!
  7. Mother_matters: may I ask what other program you were accepted into? Is it in the area? I dont know of too many schools that have an Accel. BSN that starts in January so I am just curious. I applied to Georgetown and just got accepted but if I am unable to get their scholarship, I probably cant afford it so I'd like to have options.
  8. Has anyone heard on their application status yet?
  9. lizzylou- thanks! congrats to you too! I remember speaking to you and justjane. It looks like we have at 3 or people from our interview on here! Anyone else from Oct 3? And you are way better than me on the essay. I am STRUGGLING through it. Its been a crazy week and I just got back from a 24hour trip to FL for a funeral. Came home to an A&P II exam and work so I am really going to have to pull it together!! Any idea what time we have to submit it? By end of business day or just the end of the day. crossing my fingers for 11:59 pm. and I got the same impression as you, that the WHC people would be pouring over them all weekend and should have a decision by Monday/early next week. I believe one of them was going on vaca. so thats good because I cant start celebrating yet. 70k....just not sure if I can justify that.Plus I have to be able to get every single penny loaned to me. PLus some to live off of. Thats almost 6 figures! Anybody NOT interested in the scholarship?
  10. Has anyone gotten any additional emails yet? My email said to expect more details shortly but I haven't heard anything yet.
  11. Hi Alex, I sat next to you at WHC on Saturday in the big round circle of potential students! I too received my acceptance letter today! Yay! However, I desparately need that scholarship. So crossing my fingers again! Congrats to you and I hope to see you in January!
  12. I'm in too!! WLJ what interview session were you in? Now I just have to get that scholarship so I can actually go!
  13. I have my interview tomorrow too. I wasn't nervous until I read all these posts! And I am very nervous about hearing next week! I have planned this out in my head and I am just sure that I won't get in because of that.
  14. Me too! I think that I'll probably pick Saturday, Oct. 3 because I have class on Tuesdays and Thursday.
  15. not yet....maybe this week?? Probably not though. Technically the deadline to have recommendations in was only this past Saturday.
