Georgetown U. Accelerated BSN - Spring 2010

Published

Hi Everyone,

I just submitted my application for Georgetown's Accelerated BSN starting Spring 2010 and I just wanted to open a post for anyone else that has applied as well.

If you are a WHC scholar, you will not spend any time in the lab but will use the WHC lab. Otherwise there are a couple simulator exercises, but I haven't had them. In general the simulator is about .00005% of your experience. It is used almost exclusively for the anesthesia classes. We used it once so far but all we did was listen to the heartbeat and breathing (which were broken anyway).

Broken? haha, Oh no! Then again, I guess it's not a deal breaker considering it counts for so little of your GU experience.

Another question: Do ABSN students get any vacation breaks?

Another, another question: What's the relationship like amongst classmates? Is there a sense of community or competition?

ABSN students do get the same breaks between semesters that all other students get, although they are short. I think there is a 3 week break in May, a 2 week break in August, and a 3 week break in December. They never seem long enough. Then there is spring break in March during the semester, a five-day break over T-day and a five-day break over Easter.

My classmates are the best part of the experience. They are a wonderful and amazing group. There is absolutely no sense of competition at all. Everyone helps everyone. We do group outlines and help each other a lot. The WHC group is probably closest because of all the time they spend together, but there is really a kinship amongst everyone in the cohort. I do not know if every cohort is that way. When I applied, the students that we talked to said the same great things about their cohorts. The way that grading is done, there is no curve, so it doesn't hurt you if you help someone else. There are a lot of group projects, and you get to know your clinical groups really well. I have heard that some of the larger cohorts are more clique-ish and perhaps not as friendly, but I can truly say that my cohort is the most amazing group of people that I've known.

Hey TammyG,

That's amazing to hear, and it certainly influences my decision to pursue admission into GU.

Thank you. :)
