For my english course I need to do an ISP. A major essay on a topic related to the study of english. I am all on my own in choosing a topic so I thought i'd ask for your opinions on this one! lol
I've been thinking about doing it on Plagiarism, focusing on prevention.
What do you think? A good idea? Bad?
I appreciate your thoughts!

What is an ISP? What grade level are you? Plagarism is an ok topic, but you need to focus on some particular aspect, like how easy it is to do now that students have access to all sorts of information via Internet.

Hmmm...how about how text messaging is affecting literacy...for the better or for the worse?
Here's an interesting article...

I think plagarism is a very interesting topic to focus on. As stated above, it certainly is easy to get bits and pieces of things from the internet and cutting and pasting has probably hit an all time high! I think it would make an interesting paper. Good luck!

I like Beans idea.
When I was taking my english and writing classes I always put myself in the teachers perspective....Here is a person who has to read 30 to 40 essays. I found that by picking the oddest topics I actually got better grades then my peers.
I think teachers- just like anyone, get bored reading the same old stuff. Even though plagerisim is a good topic I'm sure your prof has already read umpteen million plagerisim papers already.
Pick a new, exciting and different topic that will hold your profs intrest. For example I remember one time we had to do a comparison and contrasting essay.....my topic......I compared my first root canal experience to my second root canal experience-did it with humor and flair and got an A....

How in depth does it have to be? My first degree is in English so I can help ya if you need it! lol
When you say 'relating to the study of English' exactly what area? Just English in general, literature, linguistics, etc.? That will influence where you go...What class are you taking? Is it just a general comp. class or something else?
Let me know if you need any help! I'd be glad to put that first degree to use! LOL :chuckle
