when do they start back to school? have you finished or just started to shop for them? what have you and your children done for "fun" or what educational things have you done? are they excited for you!

Hi Stephany,

My two Jr. High sons will start back around Aug. 26th, my college son (sophomore) moves back early Aug.

Haven't started school shopping yet but plan to soon. Oh and my two youngest sons just finished a summer full of baseball, now they will begin Football season.

How about you?

Marie

Well we start back early. We are on a "year 'round" program. So my 8th grader--whew my baby ... wil start back on August 1st.

I have even started shopping. Gotta do that this weekend.

I have a college girl too and she will be starting back around the 25th of August. She goes to the University Of Tn. Memphis.

Political science major. They really havent done alot this summer except our trip to Fla. And my son is a big fisherman, so he has had his pole in the water all summer. Usually in our back pond.

Kids here start back August 14th. Just found out yesterday....I was hoping to be working by then, so I could buy the kids some new clothes....

All I can do is pray I guess......and buy as soon as I do start work.....

Julie :)

My kids start back the same day I start my first classes, Sept. 3rd.

So I have some time yet to start shopping (thank goodness).

Unfortunately, my kids have had quite a boring summer, as I have been working most of it (mail carrier). I hate it for them, but most of the time they are good about it. We have been boating a little (until the engine needed repair), we have a pool, so they do have that at least. My girls are all teens now, 13, 14, 16........so they are harderto please, as far as doing things as a family.

We did attend a family get-together this past weekend.......they had a blast, and had a chance to meet family for the first time :)

The boys that are still home seem to be much easier to please........give them their games, a fish pole, or their bikes, and they are set. They are 11 & 12.

As for being excited for me........that's yet to be seen. Most have held judgement back, one has openly said she doesn't like it that I am going to school. They have been too used to mom being home all the time. I haven't worked untik the last 1 1/2 years.............so, I think they are concerned about how things will go once I am in school.

LOL, that's ok, because I am too.

The summer holidays seem to be flying bye. :( :( Both kids start back the Tuesday after labour day. Shopping, thankfully isn't too much of an issue for my youngest. She wears a school uniform and only needs a few polo shirts and a new school vest. The rest still fit or are in good shape. My eldest will be starting grade 10 (where does the time go??). She has more clothes than she knows what to do with. She actually told me that she doesn't think she needs anything new for fall!! I just about fainted! Mind you, having 25 pairs of jeans helps!

I never purchase school supplies until they are back in school and come home with a list. Otherwise it is a wasted trip. The first week always brings a flood of "I needs." That's where it gets expensive.

Both kids got to go to riding camp for a week. They ride English style. They also take weekly lessons. Family memebers have also helped in entertaining them while Mom works. They have been all over visiting places, etc! On my days off (my holidays were cancelled this summer cause of shortages) we go swimming or to a museum, or to a movie. Some days we just spend the whole day in our jammies, vegging.

Cheers!

Jo-Anne

my boys start back to school sept 3rd...well 2 0f them do. My youngest is 4 and he starts school 9th sept. It is very expensive for me cos i have to buy 6 school uniforms....2 each. then there is p.e kits. I actually start my placement on 26th August. so my Mom has them but i will make sure i'm there when they go back to school especially as its my youngest first day. :)

My children start school the Tuesday after Labor Day. The summer has just flown by... We live 5 miles from the beach so if they are not there.. they are swimming at home...Otherwise, they have friends come over,, or they ae playing outside with the neighborhood kids.... Thank goodness my hubby works 3rd shift.. so he's home with them during the day. My son who is 8 has been reading this summer, we told him a book a week.... so far he keeping up, plus we are reading Harry Potter and the Chamber of secrets together!

The Youngest whil will be 6 in September... has been doing her share of reading. with the Clifford books and Dr. Zeuss...My husband and I will be on vacation for a week in Aug.. I figured we will go to the Museum of Natural History...and make a day out of it in NYC... we will probably visit the WTC site also.. The Kids love going to the city.. so we try to spend the day there at least 4 times a year...

When it comes to Back to school clothing.. I don't by anything until after Halloween.. everything is cheaper then.... you figure they can still wear summer stuff... b/c of Indian Summer and then they have a couple of pieces of clothing left over from last year that will carry them over...Same goes for school supplies.. I don't by anything untl they have officially started school....

I do wish my kiddies had school uniforms.... that way there is no fighting about what they are going to wear in the morning!

As for being excited about mommy...They miss me very much. and I miss them. I haven't been around much. I have been going to school all summer, plus working...so it's tough... but they do know this is temporary... at least for the next 3 years... and in the long run mommy is making sacrifices for their own good! Hopefully they don't hold against me in the future..

, marie!

my oldest is 22 and is working. since his leaving, i do miss him but realize he has to grow up and learn things on his own.

my 13th years old will start (8th grade) on august 12th and my 15 years old will start (10th grade) on august 15.

we are going this weekend to finish shopping. i have already started with supplies.the best bargins on paper is at office depot that i have found. their 200 count wild ruler and college ruled paper is $0.50 each.

mine are both at schools that require a uniform to be worn. the shoes keeps my pocket book drained because my son is "hard" on shoes. oh well!

my son wants to play basketball but he is short for his age. most thinks he is still in elementary school and this makes him sad. my daughter is on the drill team and the jrotc.

besides movies, we haven't done much since i am working. yes, there are a couple of places they have asked to go and i will take them to one of them, my children faces lights us when i play games with them, take them out for an ice-cream cone, have a picnic in the park and things of this nature.

"year round".....how does this works and do you like it better than the 9 months school year?

Hi Everyone!!

My 5 kids will be going to three different schools. The three youngest (8,7,5) and my oldest (16) will be starting school Aug. 19th. My 9th grader (14) will be starting Aug. 7th. The elementary school where my three youngest go has a program that enables parents to order all school supplies from a company that will have everything there for the kids the first day of school. Yeah! I'm going to wait until after school starts to get the items for the older ones.

As far as clothes, I'm going to try to make what they have stretch and get things as they are needed in the future. My oldest has a job and doesn't mind buying things for himself that he thinks he needs that we don't have money for at the time. He's one of the greatest teenagers anyone could have.

We've been just kind of bummin' around this summer going to a movie here and there and swimming at the public pool on an occasional evening. I bought some 'keep up on the skills' books for them, but haven't had them do them as often as I'd hoped.

Their biggest thing going on for the summer is the fact that my parents are taking all five of them to CA to go to Disneyland!! They are leaving this coming Sat. and will be gone for almost 4 days. I do not know how I got so lucky to have grandparents like this for my kids, but I do know I am TRULY blessed!!!!!

My kids are happy for me to be going back to school (it is because of the oldest ones willingness to babysit that I can take my evening class; my husband gets up at 2am and has to go to bed around 5 or 6pm). My oldest 'kid' has the most trouble with it (my hubby). I haven't done much as far as outside of the home stuff for most of our 17 yr marriage, so he's doing some adjusting. Gee...he'll really have to adjust when I get done with my pre-req's and start 'real' nursing school, huh? :)

Hope the rest of your summer goes well!!
