  1. I know just how you feel. I work in the community now but when i worked on the wards our shifts were 14 hrs, and ur lucky if you got out on time. Also you can be rostered to do another 14 hr shift next day. Looking back i dont know how i did them and look after my 4 children too. :)
  2. Thank you for your replies. i will look into it. i want to live and work in either country. :)
  3. Hi I am a health visitor ( specialist community public health nurse) and paeds trained. Is there an equivalent in either Australia or new zealand. I love the community work and do not really want to go back to hospital setting. I do health promotion and education and preventative work and work with children from 0-4 yrs. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you :)
  4. I hope your labour government is better than ours. Rudd wants to get rid of our queen from your country. I hope he does well for nurses. Our labour government has made the NHS worse, patients suffer.
  5. i just want to say i was in the last group to do the project 2000 and i did the diploma. I consider myself to be a good nurse, evidenced based and practically. I have now furthered my career and done degrees. i think if you have completed the course and your interested in nursing and its the profession you really want then u can be a excellent nurse, despite whether ur diploma or degree. i know many people who do the diploma because of financial reasons, so they can get a bursery as you dont get this if you do a degree. There are good and bad workers in all professions, despite qualifications.
  6. i work full time and have 4 children, my youngest is 2yrs old. i do get tired and drained but i would say im healthy. Im hardly off sick and when i am off it tends to be the children who are ill, so i have carers day.
  7. cervical cancers vaccine was mentioned last year here in uk
  8. keep going...u will get there. Good luck
  9. All i can say on this is if u in UK u dont get a physical unless there is something they need to check. All u do here is fill in a questionaire about your health. So i wouldnt worry by not having one.
  10. I would be over there like a shot if Aus had health visitors! thats my job here in uk. Fab it is too and i wouldnt want ward work as i love community so much.
  11. i would question the doctor as to why i would have to bend over the table..... You do have the chance to object.
  12. Thanks for that. I think australia is the place i would like to go. I hope to go on hols to australia with family and look around and see what property market is like. I dont really want to work in a hospital as im a Health visitor / public health nurse and deal with children and their families in the community. Thats the line of work im looking for, but i have been told Australia does not have health visitors
  13. ok this is probably not part of an employment physical, but in my eyes you consented to her doing it. If you were not happy you are within your rights to refuse. Can i ask if you thought this was not part of the physical why did you consent? Remember consent does not have to be vebal or written. If you undressed by your own free will for the examination to be carried out thats consent.
  14. If you want to try another career and at this point of time you feel nursing is not for you. I say do it. You are a qualified nurse and if in the future you want to go back into nursing, you can do courses to bring you back upto date with your knowledge and clinical skills. No matter what career you chose just remember you can always go back into nursing. I dont think any job is worth getting so worked up about especially if it is affecting you and your family. You wont know till you try. Good Luck! :)
  15. Hi All I have decided want to emigrate but cant make mind up to where, either Australia or New Zealand.
