I just got this book a couple of days ago from Amazon.com. (Don't you just love that website?) Anyways, the book was reccommended here and I finally got around to buying it and doing the exercises yesterday. I don't know how much it will help until I actually take my first test after studying this way, but it seemed to make sense. I ended up testing as a combination language processor for reception, my reorganization was spatial, and retention was musical and knowing others. I have been reading my notes out loud while listening to quiet classical music and using different color inks to map out my outlines from my texts. I will also be using the different color inks, blank papers, and mapping for taking notes in class. How many of you have used this method? Has it worked well for you? What did you test as? Thanks in advance for sharing.

I just ordered the book a few days ago. I am waiting for it to arrive. I read so many good things about it on this board that I decided I needed to try it.

I would also be interested to see what other people's results have been after using the book's methods.

Hi Kats! I've never heard of that book. However, there is a book that was referred to me by my nursing tutor it's called, TEST SUCCESS, test taking techniques for beginning Nursing Students by Patricia Nugent and Barbara Vitale. Let me tell you it helps tremendously in Nursing 101 (Fundamentals). My test grades went from C+ to A's when I was studying Psych Nursing (which by the way is to me harder than Med Surg). Well that's my experience. Good luck with your book. You may want to try this book when you start studying the nitty gritty nursing topics. Stay cool!:)

Specializes in Med-Surg.

For those of you who have used this book, what level is it written on? I have an almost 13 year old son who has Asperger's Syndrome, and I think a book that teaches him the thinking process may be really helpful. (He reads on a very advanced level).

Specializes in Adult Med-Surg, Rehab, and Ambulatory Care.

I have that too, and it rocks. :)

I will probably take a look at the Test Success book too. Do you think it would help me this semester too even if I am not actually in nursing school yet? I am hoping to start in January.

That's what this book is called? "You are smarter than you think" ......?

Going to look it up now.

I have been recommending the You are smarther than you think book to all my friends and family. My little sister is going to read it w/in the next few weeks (she's 13). I really think anybody can benefit from it. I was sceptical at first b/c I had to start doing the "mapping" of the texts w/ different colors and reading out loud (i'm combination, spatial, knowing self & others). feel kind of silly but it definitely worked. gotta A on my first test :)

we're required to have that test success book....haven't looked at it yet tho.

We had a surprise quiz today and I hadn't studied at all except for doing the mapping for the chapters. I aced it. We will see how much it helps for my Chemistry class. I am still waiting for my books. They are in the store at one campus, but won't be available at my campus until Tuesday. Fortunately, I bought a "Chemistry for Dummies" book over the summer that has helped a bit with standard deviation and significant figures.

I just spent the last hour browsing the books @ amazon. I ended up ordering "Test success"; "How to Prepare for the Nursing School Entrance Exams (Barrons) and an arithmatic book.

I should be set for now! Thanks, for this thread and all the replies.

I also ordered the you are smarter than you think you are and I love it. I have been reading my text out loud and mapping out my notes and I am actually learning things instead of just memorizing stuff. My counselor at school has really been trying to instill in us that we have learn the material not just memorize it and moving on. I really like it and hope everyone enjoys it.

To Kats, Test Success, should be able to help you in any English or Humanities type course. But in case you don't find it to be of any use now, at least you have it for when you start nursing:)
