What is your minor?

  1. I was wondering what if any your minor is? I was thinking of gerontology since it seems like a good fit w/ nursing but what I would like to do is something like art history? A minor is not required but it seems like everyone at my school has one. Advice please?@!

I'm in an ADN program, so we don't do minors (well, I'd like to if he's really cute, but my husband probably wouldn't like it :chuckle )

SIGH....I have been trying to sqeeze a minor in, but it is becoming really difficult. Seems like every semester my schedule is packed with the required classes. I WANT a minor in sociology...if I can just slip 4 more soc classes in over the next two years. I think it would be the perfect compliment, as I want to go into community health nursing.

I'm in a BSN program but we really don't have the extra classtime for a minor unless you go an extra semester. I have a previous degree in Spanish & will sit for the IBCLC (lactation consultant) board exam next year. My nursing elective will be a lactation class this Fall. I also took a childbirth educator class offered by the state. So those are my other areas of interest or specialties I guess you'd say, even though I won't have a minor.

I wish I could minor in biochemistry, but as of yet, there is no such thing available to me so I am just going to get my bachelor's in it.

My school doesn't offer minors. My first university didn't either. They figured if you're going for a minor, you might as well take a few more credits and have a double major. If I could go back in time, I would have double majored in music.

I can think of more than a few things I'd like to minor in - art, music (performance-piano), spanish, bio, women's studies - but I'm more worried about graduating and getting ONE degree right now. Got two little mouths to worry about feeding... hoping I'll have time for some "fun" classes later on down the line...

I was thinking of minoring in Health Science/Health Education.. I thought it would be a good complement for nursing. Unfortunately I do not have the time to complete the minor while I'm in the nursing program, so I decided to graduate with a major in Nursing only, no minor.

I still have not made up my mind...If I have to wait a semester or two for a spot in the nursing program then I will probably add a minor since its only 5 or 6 classes extra for a minor like art history or mexican american studies. A minor like spanish is like 9-10 classes extra (too many). We shall see. Someone from the nursing program said that most people add a minor to be different than others when they go get a job or apply for graduate school but since nurses are in such demand we really don't need minors unless we just have time to kill before a space opens up.

hmmm, my minor was in english. i only got a minor in this area because i thought it would help me with my major.
if i had to give advice, id say, if u can, dont get a minor because you think it will help you with nursing but get a minor to please yourself in learning something u want to learn. in my opinion, it will make you more well-rounded, plus that can be stressful to just focus on nursing, nursing, nursing, and stuff that can help you with nursing while in school.

I'm in an ADN program and we don't have minors, but I chose to work on an Associate in Arts degree in addition to nursing. I decided to earn two degrees because it is taking me 3 years to earn an Associate degree which traditionally is only supposed to take 2 years.....So I figured...why not knock out 2 degrees with 1 punch!! Plus...while completing the requirements for my AA, I'm simultaneously completing the support courses for my BSN. So it's almost 3 with 1 punch!
