Titers, shots and papers due oh my

Oh, boy.

I am one nervous pup right now. My physical paper is due this Thursday and I have done everything, drug test, background check, CPR, everything. I am just waiting on titers to come back to the Drs office. I had the blood drawn last Thursday and spoke with the Dr. this morning, and she is just waiting on a few more titers to come back. I asked if she thought it would be done by Thursday and she said she hoped for late this week. I then asked her if she could just fill out the form as much as she could and make a note that it's been done and we are waiting on a few titers and she pretty much said she couldn't do that. I have stressed to her a few times that this needs to be done by Thursday or my offer of acceptance will be rescinded if not turned in on Thursday. So I just called the lab and they just pushed me back to the drs. office. YIKES.

Anyways, just needed to vent and ask, how long do titers take to come back?

TIA

I gave the blood for my varicella titer on Saturday morning and had the results by Tuesday afternoon. I had it done at my local hospital lab so I didn't have the doctor as the middle man to slow it down any. Good luck, and if you got a reciept from the doctor's office on the day of the test I would bring it with you to the school on Thursday if the doctor hasn't given you the test results. It won't be what the school needs but at least it would show that you are working on getting it finished.

BTW, I feel your pressure... I have one more ppd test and my CPR class then my list will be finished!:D

Wow, your results came in quick.... I have one more ppd as well. I just hope this doesn't result in me not being able to start in August. Good luck to you as well.

My titres came back within a couple of days. Yours, I would think, should be back by now, or soon! If you don't hear back by tomorrow, I'd be calling anyone and everyone!

OR, call the school and let them know what the situation is and you want to find out from them how you should handle it. Does your school have a nurse that does this as well? Our school offers all of the tests for a charge. I just had titres drawn yesterday since I finished my HEP B series and she said they should be back tomorrow.

I don't know about the titers... I had my records and that was sufficient in my case.

I would call the school and let them know now what's happening. Probably it won't be an issue if things take a few days longer. If they're particularly concerned you could sign a release at the physician's office and ask the school to call them and check on the status.

I know how you feel, though. I was so nervous that something was going to go wrong right up until school actually started. It's kinda scary consider how much of ourselves we invest in trying to get into nursing school

Thanks, Our school has no nurse, and I go in tomorrow to ge my ppd first test read at the drs. office. The nurse there seemed to be helpful and onboard and I think it will be the same one tomorrow, so I will need to lean on her some more tomorrow and hope she can help me out or miraculously that my titers have come back. She had said they had started another chart on me and she would need to track down the first one that had my form in it. If no help tomorrow I will be calling everyone and anyone for help. I just did try to call my school, but the lady wasn't in the office.

I had them done on Friday and had results by the following Tuesday. That was about 3 titers.. maybe 4.. I would have to look to remember

I had my blood drawn Thursday morning and they had my results by Friday afternoon for my varicella titer.

I had it done at the campus health center and they sent it to a lab since obviously they don't do them there.

Hope you get your results today! Sounds like dealing with a doctor is a pain in the rear and a run around-- too bad your campus doesn't have a clinic where you can get everything done quickly and pretty cheaply.

I have taken the day off next Thursday so that I can go to the local health department to get my titers done. How exciting... I think that is the last thing I need to have done before I register.

Glad to know that I am not alone in the race to get it done by X date. Mine are due by July 1. I have everything else done except the titers, which are supposed to be back by tmw. But I also have to come back for my 2nd series TB skin test. I made an appt to get my titers read and get the 2nd TB skin test done on Fri (TB test to be read on Mon). Mine are being done by the hospital that's funding my program. I pray that all of the titers are within acceptable levels, or else I will be getting poked some more.

Update,

Wish me luck, I'm off to see if I can convince someone that I need that paper. I am taking with me my acceptance letter which states no exceptions for missing the tomorrow deadline and if I don't have everything my acceptance will be rescinded. Gulp. If I don't see progress in the Dr..s office, I will march on over to the lab and ask when I might expect the titers to be finished. I spoke with my CNP today at my annual and she told me to not leave the office til I have the paper, a friend of hers was delayed a whole semester because the PA was too sick to have her papers filled out. If all else fails, I will have to speak to the supervising doc as the one I saw is only a resident. Sigh here I go.

How much time have you had between receiving your offer of acceptance and the due date, tomorrow? My pre-entrance health form isn't due until July 15th, and I sent it in a week ago. When it comes to nursing school admissions items, I would definitely be sure to give yourself much more time to get these things done and account for delays on the end of those you are depending to get information from (e.g. other schools for transcripts, MDs/NPs).

Also, it is odd that your MD/lab is taking so long, my titer results were documented in two business days.
