Titers, shots and papers due oh my

Oh, boy.

I am one nervous pup right now. My physical paper is due this Thursday and I have done everything, drug test, background check, CPR, everything. I am just waiting on titers to come back to the Drs office. I had the blood drawn last Thursday and spoke with the Dr. this morning, and she is just waiting on a few more titers to come back. I asked if she thought it would be done by Thursday and she said she hoped for late this week. I then asked her if she could just fill out the form as much as she could and make a note that it's been done and we are waiting on a few titers and she pretty much said she couldn't do that. I have stressed to her a few times that this needs to be done by Thursday or my offer of acceptance will be rescinded if not turned in on Thursday. So I just called the lab and they just pushed me back to the drs. office. YIKES.

Anyways, just needed to vent and ask, how long do titers take to come back?

TIA

I wonder why are you needing them so early?? I start the ADN program this Aug 15 and we do not have to have all of our required papers till Sept 1 . We only have to have the physical, immunization records, TB skin test, Hep B and our CPR. I did not see anything about a drug test, background check or titers of anything on my paper. We have orientation July 21 so maybe that is when they will ask for the other things that everybody else is being required to get. I wondering if the criteria varies from state to state for the Nursing programs?

How much time have you had between receiving your offer of acceptance and the due date, tomorrow? My pre-entrance health form isn't due until July 15th, and I sent it in a week ago. When it comes to nursing school admissions items, I would definitely be sure to give yourself much more time to get these things done and account for delays on the end of those you are depending to get information from (e.g. other schools for transcripts, MDs/NPs).

Also, it is odd that your MD/lab is taking so long, my titer results were documented in two business days.

I'e had since early MAy, however it was extremely difficult to find a Dr. to take me as I didn't have a pcp. And the last thursday appt was the first one I was offered.

I had everything else done a long time ago, drug screen cpr criminal background etc.

I also find it odd that my titers are not all accounted for yet, the Mumps came back already.

In any event, I did get the form signed that we are awaiting titers and hopefully that will work with an update when the titers come back.

Tomorrow morning I will take all of my papers to school and see if it is sufficient, if not then it will be back to the lab and drs. office to see exactly what the problem is.

Good luck! I hope all works out for you!!! Definitely keep us posted - I've been thinking about you wondering how its going!

A great big PHEW.

Took all of my papers to school this morning and explained that I had the exam and that the Dr. is just waiting on a few titers, and the secretary said it's ok to just give them the authentification of everything when it's finally done and that they know these things can take time.I did have the exam form filled out and signed to give them with pending results on the rest as well as the lab order which showed that I have had the titers run.

Phew phew phew. Phew.

and thanks to all and also maybe this will serve a purpose to warn others that If you don't have a Dr. find one ASAP because it takes forever to find one and get in to the office....

Oh good...I'm so glad it all worked out!!!! Phew is right!!!! YAY!! :yeah:

Just a suggestion if someone else needs to find a doc for a physical. Our local "doc-in-a-box" (urgent care facility) does school physicals for less than it cost me to go to my regular Dr. (wish I'd known before I went!!!) It couldn't hurt to check out these facilities in your area.

Ok...time to "get real" with the doctor.

That's hogwash...she can sign off on the titers that has come back.

Here is the other problem you'll run into: The physician isn't going to know what the nursing school will accept as "immune" as this varies from area to area.

I hate your doctor did that.

How many titers are you having run? I only had one (Rubella) and took my Hep B series.

I know, she is just a resident and hadn't even signed off on the exam, if you could call it that. The nurse had to find another dr. to sign off on the physical part and the nurse had to hunt down a trillion things for my paper. I just feel like she couldn't have cared less, the resident. I had Rubella, Varicella, Mumps, Hep B and I think Rubeola run and still find it very odd that only the Mumps came back and the nurse told me to give them another WEEK? Just seems too long, especially after what you all have reported as how long your titers took.

Ah well, the school accepted what I gave them under the condition that I give them the rest of the results when they finally come back. Interestingly, I was talking to my friend who has been a nurse for twenty one years and she said back then her school pretty much accepted her word on her shots having been done. Ah well, I guess it is for our protection,

Hey everyone! looks like we are all in about the same boat! I actually got lucky on some things...I had my records, so a lot of the shots I had taken were still good....I did, however, have to take a tetorifice shot...ouch!!! my arm is soo sore this morning!! and I will have to have a TB skin test, and then I am finished...yay!! It is soo excited when you receive the acceptance letter...but then you see the quadrillion things that must be completed before entering the program...but it must be done so carry on! and good luck!:D

I go today to get my titer results (and possibly more shots) and for my 2nd TB skin test at 1PM. I am just praying that all of my results are in, otherwise, they too will be signing some sort of form to the affect.

I am glad that they are working with you, on the contingency that all of your tests are completed and waiting to come back.

i didn't want to have to wait for titers so i just took everything over again, it was less trouble for me anyway.

i had most of them as a child, and then again when i traveled overseas, plus a lot more. i even have all of the records, but it was so much easier for me to just get it done and have all the paperwork completed.

i was accepted in april and had my paperwork completed by the end of april. our paperwork is due by july 14, but mine is already in so i am done stressing over that part. good luck to, i will pray you get your results back in time.

I just got back and I was OK on all but the Hep B shots, so I started that today. I just have to go back Monday for my TB skin test read and I am home free (with immunizations at least). Now for the hard part - nursing school.
