OK,

I can remember and understand a lot of things, however, the definition of Sistole (contraction) and Diastole (relaxation) of the heart will be the baine of A&PII Circlulatory System studying.

Does anyone have a mneumonic or catchy phrase to easily remember that Sistole is contraction and Diastole is relaxation?

Thanks for your ideas,

Col

Colleen,

I just had an exam on the heart and blood last night! I'm not sure if this will help for you, but my last name starts with Dia. I think, am I cool, or what? I'm relaxed. Diastole. I also think...systole...sit up straight!! It kind of of rhymes.

Sorry, that's the best I could come up with! lol

Specializes in Med/Surg.

I thought of Diastole as "Di" (die) That's about as relaxed as you can be! Then of course, you would know which one systole is.

Yes, Mel, you are cool!

S is for squeeze (contraction)

D is for downtime (relaxation)

Specializes in PCU, Critical Care, Observation.

Bear with me...

Sis (SYStole).......for contractions......like labor contractions...females have labor contractions, SIS is a female.

DR (Diastole=Relaxation).....Dr's are usually relaxed because it's the nurses running around doing all of the work for them.

Specializes in Emergency, Trauma.

Remember that asystole (flatline) is absence of systole (contraction).

That is also how I kept the two straight.

When you die, you are down under. Grim but it worked.
