Senior Student - staying motivated till the end.

Been through the whole prerequisites, excitation of getting into nursing school and now after my first year, I'm a senior. I find that I am growing weary of the same old issues with not having time with family and spending time with these military type instructors listing more dos and don't s that I need to know. First week of nursing school as a senior was busy as usual but I seem to be immune to the frantic ways I had as a junior. Partly because I'm more organized and aware of the chaos to come but also because I just don't seem to care. I feel like I've lost the zeal for nursing school , can't wait till graduation, and wondering what do I do next. I'm not even excited about clinicals coming up. I got bills to pay but have learn to just ignore them and other issues at home. I'm very much self motivated or always the guy pushing others to do their best. I guess my batteries have drained. I know its only 1 year left but how do you senior nursing students stay motivated and get back the excitement that you had when you first started school?

I'm an older senior student and after 1 week back, feel your pain. I'm fine with the content, but it's the pace and the info overload and the lecture/lab/clinicals/SIM/ATI/other classes that I'm taking toward my bachelors. It can feel overwhelming. Last year, the newness of it kept me going at a frantic pace. This year, I'm just kinda tired.

I did it by repeatedly reminding myself that I only had one more year to get it all down. One of the biggest criticisms of new grads these days are they many of them seem woefully unprepared from a clinical standpoint. So make it your mission to look for EVERY opportunity to hone your skills. Volunteer to start IVs, NG tubes, or any other skill that doesn't normally present itself to you all the time. The more times you do these things, the more confident and enthusiastic you can become. There is so much to learn in nursing, so every thing you can absorb before you start your first nursing job will give you that much more time to learn the next thing. Don't be the timid one. If you approach each clinical day as an opportunity to conquer the new nurse lack of competency problem, that should help you retain your enthusiasm. This isn't just the last year of many-it's your last chance to make the most of the opportunities which are out there.

I am in my last semester!!! Also am owl and chomping at the bit. So ready to move on and be able to get back to my family. They have been so supportive and patient, but they are ready to have their mom back and not so stressed all the time. Oh and money, actually making money would be nice.

I remember send you a message regarding prof for FSCJ.. I am now finished with all Pre Reqs and completion of my AA. HOwever I am stuck with the problem of no acceptance in any program being that my GPA is low from two classes of receiving a "C". Anyhow, I am happy for you and want to say congrats for you being in your last term! You stuck it out and making it happen! I hope I have the same success :up:....... I'm starting to look into private colleges now, KAPLAN just because its time for me to get this show on the road type feeling going on! In the end the RN license is what we all are shooting for.

Senioritisssssssss:singing::sleep:

I'm focused, yes. Frantic like my first year, no. By now I've learned how to manage studying, life (hubby and kiddo), finances, and work (nights at local hospital). So I'm kind of just..... Blahhhhhh. Waiting for the next step. It almost feels like, as a somewhat OWL,I've managed myself to efficiency and have time I didn't expect to have so I may be suffering from slow days syndrome!

I'm confused. Why don't you just retake those classes? It's not worth it to owe so much money when your chances of passing NCLEX are so much lower at Kaplan

yeah your userid looks familiar, accepted your request...I've been trodding along...and yes I been in allnurses for a long time. It's still a great place to find advice. When it comes down to it, dragging myself through this is the only way to make it. Despite all the advice and motivation anyone can give you, its still up to the person to motivate themselves and pick up the pieces and move on. I spent several days doing just nothing...it hurt me a bit because now I have to play catchup but I am more refreshed and focused. We will make it.:yes:
