Hi everyone,
I need to purchase a new pair of shoes for my nursing externship this summer.
I have heard a lot of people say that they love their clogs but wanted to know if anyonde had bad things to say about them.
I guess what concerns me is that they may not stay on my feet. I don't own a pair of clogs to wear even outside of nursing school so I'm worried that I'll spend a lot of money on a pair of clogs and when I get to wearing them in the hospital they won't stay on my feet or I'll have difficulty maneuvering in them.
Has anyone ever had that problem or are you happy with your clogs?

Personally, I have liked wearing clogs -- but would never wear them to work. In fact, they have been "against the dress code rules" at all the hospitals I have ever worked at. So, before you buy, make sure your employer allows them.
The reason some employers don't allow them is because you might have trouble running in them. In an emergency, you may need to run ... you may need to run down a flight of stairs carrying a child or helping a sick person. While most people learn to walk safely and securely in clogs under normal circumstances, they are more likely than other types of shoes to slip off under extreme conditions. Therefore, many employers don't want to take that chance.

I love my Dansko clogs. They are so comfortable. My feet never hurt. They have a strap that goes across the back of the heel, which holds them on. Because of the strap, I don't worry about them falling off in an emergency. I get lots of compliments on them.

I've been wearing Dansko clogs to work for 3 years now and wouldn't wear anything else! They style is called 'Professional' and they come in lots of colors. I guess they aren't true 'clogs' because they have backs on them. I paid about $85 for them 3 years ago but they are still in good shape and I love them!
By the way, I have no problem running in them either :)
I forgot about the ones with straps and/or backs. They do stay on better. But I would still recommend reading your employers dress code policy before spending any money.

I love clogs too.........I wear my Land's End clogs all year around. But the nursing school I'm attending in the fall said "no nursing clogs", as well as no sneakers also. But the white nursemates shoes I bought (that look EXACTLY like sneakers, 'cept for the little heart on them) are fine.
But if I had my choice, I'd wear those clogs also. They look great!

So... then what's the difference between "sneakers" and "nursing shoes"?

I've heard some places don't allow clogs, with or without the strap on back, because of the potential for foot injury if you were to say, spill something on your foot. I would check with the agency policy before spending any money. Besides, I've seen cute styles that aren't clogs, too.

I'm with you LauraLou!! I used to have a pair of the Dansko "Professional" clog, and I just loved them! The only thing that has kept me from getting another pair is the never ending expansion of me already wide feet. They were just comfortable after child #1, but after #2 and #3, I find them too snug to wear.

I love my Dansko Professional's! I wear a narrow size that are kinda hard to find. These are soooo comfortable, no more tired legs.

My school and the facility that I work at both said no clogs...but the Klogs brand makes a clog that is backless. Their newest style is exactly like that one except that it has a small back on it. The style is called "springfield" and they cost about $55. It's the best investment I have made so far. What could possibly be more important than your feet/legs in this career???

I honestly don't like wearing clogs becuz the strap rubs my heel raw! Plus the straps will fall down and when I adjust them they are too tight! A no win situation for me.
