NOT going to the pinning ceremony

I have a previous degree, so going to some special occasion AND graduation is not something I'm interested in. I just want to go to graduation to get up on stage, grab my fake diploma, and walk away! lol

Apparently I'm the only one (that I know of at the moment) who's not going to the pinning ceremony. The teacher was all disappointed and thought I wasn't going because I'm going on vacation or something instead. I said, "No, I just don't care." She was saying how special it is and how I should go because I worked so hard. Yes, I HAVE worked so hard. And that is why I'm going to graduation and not wasting my time to walk around holding a lantern, get pinned, and watch everybody's silly pictures and paragraphs about themselves on some slide show. The whole thing seems way too cheesy for me. HAHHA. I told my non-classmate friends about it, and they totally agree with me.

Who else isn't going to their pinning ceremony? :nurse:

I have a friend who is not going to pinning or graduation. She has a previous degree, also, and is from another state, so she doesn't have any family here. I REALLY want her to go, just because we did work so hard and I want her to be there to share it with us. I know the pinning ceremony is cheesy in a lot of ways, but I wouldn't miss it for anything. Just my opinion. : )

I'm the opposite- going to pinning but not going to graduation. I too have a previous degree.

Why do you want to walk across a stage with a bunch of people you don't know, only to take a fake diploma and shake the hand of somebody you've never met?

I'd rather go to the pinning ceremony and enjoy what we've worked so hard for with people that were with me along the way.

I didn't go to mine 17 years ago. Hey, I did great and graduated with a 3.8, but you know what? Our instructors were completely non-supportive and totally sucked. Never regretted it.

Wouldn't you be walking across the stage with the same folks who you are getting pinned with?

I don't want to go to mine, but I'm going so my wife/family can have an "I remember when" moment for all the time I've spent away from them studying, in class, at clinicals, working, etc.

I don't want to go to mine either, simply because my school sucks and once I am finished, I want to walk away and not look back. I'm older and the ceremony doesn't really matter to me; I'm not planning on inviting family because they live out of town, and me graduating isn't really a big deal for them.

I came to get a degree, not a pin. Plus our instructors are going to speak and I feel like we've already listened to them enough. However, my friends are mortified that I would miss it, so I am going for them.

Depends on how your college does graduation. We have a college graduation ceremony, which is everybody in the entire college that is graduating that may, regardless of degree being obtained. Then we have our pinning ceremony, which is our "graduation" ceremony for the nursing class.

So for graduation, you're just intermingled throughout the rest of the university students?

I'm not a sentimental person, so pinning ceremonies or graduations have limited appeal to me, but I'm going because the faculty will surely notice if one of only 60 students decides to ditch the pinning or graduation. A few hours of my time is worth avoiding potentially burning bridges with faculty who I will need in the future for job & RN-BSN school recommendations. Plus, all my nursing friends I've spent these two stressful years with will be there, and I even if it's silly I want to enjoy the last few events we all have together as a group.

Not sure I'll go to mine when I get there. The only reason I might, is so my kids can see there is an end to the hard work of a school program. But that is a big 'might'... I'm just not all that into the 'look at me' stuff.

I didn't even like walking down the isle at my wedding. lol

Specializes in PeriOp, ICU, PICU, NICU.

I did the opposite. Didn't care about walking on stage to get a fake diploma with the entire college, so I didn't go.

I went to the pinning ceremony only because it was only nursing and it was great to celebrate with the people I studied with, sacrificed so much and spent so much time with while in the nursing program.
