That's all I needed to hear! LOL I decided to 'go for it' when last spring I met a nurse who taught in a nursing school and said that the oldest graduate that coming June would be 61 years old when she (the student) graduated. The next week I was in the nursing school counselor's office! LOL The counsel said age was not a barrier. I am in great health and physically fit. I should be able to do this! Thanks!
We have at least 3 students in my class that are in your age range (there are a couple that I am not sure how old they are). As far as I know they are doing fine. One is having some financial difficulties and has moved into the dorm. They have a lot of experiences that are really great to share with the class as a whole, and have a lot of motivation to do well.
Bella....don't ever give up on your dreams!! I have two really quick stories for you...a speech was given by Winston Chruchill in regards when one should give up a dream...he got up to the podium and stated, "I will address when it is good to give up a dream, never, never, NEVER!" with that he sat down and was done with the speech...I bet the people in the audience will never forget that speech!
The second is about a lady who was 75 and all her life she wanted to be a nurse. She went through school, and never planned on working, but she wanted to be able to say she was a nurse before she passed away. After she finished school, she was hired right away, and worked until she was 82. I hear she didn't look a day over 65, and acted like she was 30! Soooo, don't let little pre-reqs get you down...look for classes you can take online to get some of the pre-reqs out of the way!
good luck!

You all seem so friendly. It's so good to be here because I have no one to talk to about this.
I'm going to be 54 this month, will have an AA degree in Liberal Arts as of 6/03, and won't be able to start my nursing pre-reqs until fall of '03. Since I work FT, I'm only going to be able to take one course each semester. By the time I get ready to apply to nursing school (for just a 2-year degree), it's going to be 3 years from now, and I'll be 57. Which means I'll probably be 58 by the time I get into nursing school, IF I get into nursing school. And that's my question: is my age going to work against me? And, if it does, how much is it going to work against me? Should I just give up my dream of being a nurse? I don't want to put a lot of time/years into pre-reqs for nursing school if there's little or no chance I'll be able to get in.
Thanks.
