Hi everyone,

I'm starting Nursing school the 18th and one of the requirments is nursing shoes. Any suggestions before I go out and by a pair that was not worth the money spent.

Thanks

I am starting nursing school Monday. I bought a pair of nurse mates sneakers. Very lightweight, comfortable and best of all.........on sale......lol

Good luck

I recommend waiting until you get to class if possible. We got to class and had all these requirements put on us about what kind of nursing shoes we could wear (100% white, no decals or anything, not sneaker style, no sling backs, no clogs, no slits of any sort on the shoes, leather upper) several people who hadn't waited to buy their shoes wasted money on ones they couldn't wear.

Thats a good idea Rachel, it sounds like my school, so picky!

My Cherokee rockers are soooo comfy. They were about $50

I have flat feet so I need a shoe with a lot of arch support. I have always bought NurseMates shoes and LOVE them! They run around $35-$40 and last me for a good while. During clinicals we are spending most of the night on our feet and have never had a problem with Nurse Mates! Happy Shopping!!:)

I agree, wait and buy everything after you go to class. We had so many "restrictions" placed on us from our shoes, to our steths. It was insane. Lots of people were mad because they had gotten stuff for Christmas (last year) and couldn't use it.....

Always better to wait.

My school sent us a packet with a bunch of requirments. They just said nursing shoes and whites socks. So I am assuming that I can get any nursing shoes but there's so many to choose from and I don't want to spend $50on shoes that are gping to be uncomfortable.

Good luck to everyone who starts this month.

I got Dansko's. They are generally expensive and worth every penny to me. Sometimes you can find a good deal if you look around ebay, etc. I got mine at zappos.com I LOVE them, and I have a hard time finding shoes that I like & don't hurt my feet. I am going to buy another pair soon.

They have a lot of clogs but my program doesn't allow open back (also only white, no decals, etc.) so I have some from the "occupational" line that are closed backs. http://www.dansko.com/Our_Products/Occupational.aspx

By the way, there are a bunch of threads about shoes here at allnurses if you do a search!

I would also wait. Some nursing schools are picky. For instance -

none of the shoes with holes in the toe (yes I know nurses wear them, but schools may say no)

here must be a complete back to the shoe - no sling

some may not like shoestrings

some may want a particular color

That being said, once you find out the restrictions if any, I like Nursemates (I also have flat feet and need the arch support)

I purchased a pair of merrell Jungle mocs (all white w/ a full heel per my schools requirements) and they are the most comfortable shoes ever!! I also own several pairs of merrell sneakers and they do the job.

We can wear all white tennis shoes or sneakers-whichever you prefer to call them. I enjoy them best because of the flexibility and support.
