How about a thread that will allow us to introduce ourselves to those who are new and the new students can do the same.

I am Stephany, 42, mother of 3 children, a son 22, a daughter 15, and a son 13. I am an LPN of nearly 11 years, and I am in my first semester of a five-semester rn program.

hi everyone...im new in this to this forum and just only this night i got excited in reading the discussions...even in the year of 2001 and now its already 2007..oh i really miss many things....by the way, im from philippines and im 21 years of age this august...im a 4th yr nursing student...im still single..but with boyfriend...thanks for this wonderful forum...i learned to love it, very much....i shared this to my boyfriend ( his also a nursing student) and classmates.....More power and God bless us all....:roll

Hi! I am about to begin an accelerated BSN program at Samuel Merritt College in S.F. CA. I will be 33 on Oct. 8th! My long term goal is to become a NP, either FNP or ANP, most likely primary care. Hi Mia,

It sounds as if your sister suffers from poor self-esteem. You need to decide for yourself on the type of profession you want to pursue. The responsiblity that comes with the RN title is life or death. I'm currently in Nursing School and I can tell you that most, if not all, the personalities in my class fall into the Type A personality.

There are two types of people in this world: Type A-Risk takers & Type B-the rest.

20% of the population represent the Type A personality. These are also the most successful people in the population. These are the Trumps of the world. They are very ambitious and always looking for a challenge. Although most often fail during the process of reaching their goals, thier resiliancy is extraordinary and they learn from their failures and eventually achieve their goals.

The other 80% look for situations that they are comfortable in. They will not "risk it all" to reach a goal. They will accept their role in life and just live within their comfort zone. They will not purse any type of risk and they fear change. Success is determined by being "ok".

Not that one is better than the other, but the amount of time and effort needed to become an RN is tremendous, but not impossible. It is very possible and achievable by those who remain focused on the prize. You need to ask yourself if you can handle the responsibility that comes with the title or are you more comfortable with receiving and completing tasks assigned to you. I hope this helps you and that I haven't offended any LPN's out there. One is not better than the other. It's about preferrence.

i have a quick quest. why are you in a 5 year program if you are already an lpn is it a nurse pract program or a masters program?

My fault Im a geek Its a 5 semester program. Im not awake yet.

Well 1 and 5 usually are the stressful ones but youll do wonderful. Good luck and remember this site for advise on school and for support we all love helping each other. Im not that old a nurse and If you need advise on school let me know a RN is very different and everything you learned will change as far as leadership and your roll within the job and team environment. You are the leader or will be. Take on the responsibility believe in yourself and your knowledge.

Realize this is your first semester they will not expect leaps from you but study hard know your stuff instructors talk and your reputation as a student and a nurse will start now. Make good decisions. Take this seriously. It will be hard at times but you will do great. Always ask instructors this site and friends for help as you need to. Dont go it alone help is always important. Sometime as a mom you feel youve got to do everything by yourself Dont also make time to go shopping get a message etc for you. Take care of you. good luck go get em steph.

wow! im like shining right now:saint:...because of what you said...it made me think in a way i never thought before.you right! there are two types of people...and im not the settling type.i need much more from life..i want a career not a job.i cant imagine being a nurse is easy.with all the different types of personalities and situations.but i think that is exactly why i was drawn to the nursing profession in the first place..its not cookie cutter..but yet something new everyday...thanks..you really helped out more than you could ever know:lol2:

You know what's sad? I registered in 2005, and I can't find if I posted in this thread back then!! Eeep, there's probably some easy way to do it but I'm lazy at the mo, so I might (re)post, heh.

3rd year BN student, will finish next july, but I only have 4 papers left to do!!

Really interested in a career in ortho, and forensic mental health.

26yrs old, and I have 9 rats.
