How about a thread that will allow us to introduce ourselves to those who are new and the new students can do the same.

I am Stephany, 42, mother of 3 children, a son 22, a daughter 15, and a son 13. I am an LPN of nearly 11 years, and I am in my first semester of a five-semester rn program.

Hello everyone, I have been browsing the forums without having actually registered until recently. Consider this my first post! My name is Ginger and I will be starting a nursing program at Fresno State, August 27. I am really excited to begin this journey. But I will also say that reading the posts about jobs in California (especially coastal areas) has been discouraging.

Honestly, I thought that as a nurse, I would have all the opportunity in the world. I am also setting my hopes on being able to attend an awesome program somewhere to obtain a masters degree. Even though I have three years ahead of me, I feel it important to map out my future so that I can be in a competetive position.

With that said, I have two daughters, 6 and 3, and an extremely supportive hubby backing me all the way.

wow! im like shining right now:saint:...because of what you said...it made me think in a way i never thought before.you right! there are two types of people...and im not the settling type.i need much more from life..i want a career not a job.i cant imagine being a nurse is easy.with all the different types of personalities and situations.but i think that is exactly why i was drawn to the nursing profession in the first place..its not cookie cutter..but yet something new everyday...thanks..you really helped out more than you could ever know:lol2:

i'm glad to be able to help you out. from reading your previous post, i've gathered we have a lot in common. i started in a call center and eventually worked my way into sales management. i was pretty good at my job and made a very good living. there was a problem though. i hated what i did for a living. i was not providing any type of benefit to society. in fact, my job consisted of talking people into giving me their hard earned money to buy things they don't need. i needed something more in life. what could be more fulfilling than increasing the quality of life for the sick and helpless. to me, money doesn't quantify success, although it once has. it's, forgive the pun, a higher calling. we do god's work.

judging by your intial post, i can tell you share that same calling. you knew the answer to the question before you posted it. i just told you what you already knew. you will go to school and you will get your rn. and once there, you will look back at how hard it was and wounder how you survived. then comes the satisfaction of accomplishment, along with the eagerness to learn something new.

HI!!!

I'm married, and have 2 beautiful children! I'll be starting my pre-reqs at Pensacola Jr College on the 23 and I am BEYOND excited! I am concerned with the transiton from stay at home mom, to college student, but I know this going to be a great experince, and I'll (I hope!) make the nessisary adjustments to become a successfull student! I plan to be finished with everything (pre-reqs, and other require courses) this summer and if space alows I will begin Nursing courses August of '08! Good Luck to us all!!!!!!!

Hello, I am 34 years old, 2 wonderful boys ages 6 and 13. I just finished one heck of a semester with med/surg 2. I will start critical care in a couple of weeks, and then go to mental health. I will graduate in Dec 2007!!! Good luck to everybody!!! We will all make wonderful nurses

Hi, I am 29, verging on 30, and going back to school for nursing in Michigan. I have a degree in Business, but have never been satisfied with my jobs. I have been on a waiting list to get into the ADN program for 2 years and have been accepted to start this Fall. I have to admit that I am really nervous to start over again, but I think it will be worth it. I am planning on having to stay highly caffeinated to get through. With 2 kids (7 & 3) a husband and enough animals to feel like a zoo I think I will have lots of late nights. I look forward to chatting with everyone here.;)

Hi everyone. I'm in my first semester of a five semester BSN in San Francisco. I am freeeeaaaking out big time but I'm excited at the same time. I'm 32 and this is my second career. I was wondering if any of you that have completed the first semester can give me a few sentences on their experience. I started reading this forum yesterday and I find it very comforting. I don't think many people can really understand the level of stress we are going through, so it feels so good to be able to be able to comunicate with other people that are going through the same thing. Good luck all of you that are going to school.

I think you will do just fine. I am a RN already, but not too old a graduate. A lot and I mean a lot of nurses are in a separation or divorce with kids going to nursing school and holding down a job. They Make it. Now you know this won't be a picnic but if you love what you do and are excited that is all the better. Don't be discouraged. The good nurses always have work. Start creating references and get to know your instructors in school. Also volunteering or having a part time medical job helps. Most nurses in school get a job 6 mth before graduation and get hired on at that facility on graduation.

Advise-Get organized. Ask for help from hubby classmates and faculty early if you find it hard or your really struggling. Also please please talk to your hubby. he wont really understand but ask him for his patience and try to give him yours. Tell him or ask him what you need instead of hoping he will figure it out.

My first semester I had a rotation at a nursing home. The first day we got to go into a room to see a 90 yr old man who had just past away. It was calm though and peaceful nothing to be afraid of. Nursing schools try to pace you through things that you can handle one step and a time. Remember this. It is a building structure. 1st 2 nd etc semester. You learn things in sem 1 you will apply in 2 then 3 etc. So if you need help on something get on this site for advise or ask your instructor. The one you like.

Hey everyone!!

I am 21 and beginning my FINAL year of nursing school! I am scheduled to graduate May 8, 2008 and I can't wait!! The past 3 years have been quite a journey and I can't wait to see them end although I know it will be a little bittersweet.

I start the next to last semester on August 16th and while I am ready to hit it head on...I am sooo nervous! I am so glad to have found this community as unless you are one of us, you just can't understand. Good luck to everyone, you'll be at the end before you know it!

Hi...I am a 38y/o mother of 2 teenage daughters & married. I am in my 3rd semester of pre-req's and going for my Assoc. degree in nursing. I'm wondering if it's possible to continue working a full-time day job and still be able to take the clinical classes, or is it better to go to school full-time. I'm trying to figure out my 3 year plan. Thanks:nurse:
