I have to be bathed by my classmate???

:imbar Ok call me old fashioned but I am kind of concerned. I had my nursing orientation today, and I was informed that as part of one of my practical nursing classes I will have to be sponge bathed by one of my classmates and in turn need to sponge bathe a classmate. Ok fine. No worries. HOWEVER, the next breath was, you will have to strip down to your underwear only and your classmate will drape you and sponge bathe you and vice versa. I understand that as a nurse I will give sponge baths to patients and I have no problem with that. But one of my classmates that I am going to spend hours and hours with for the next 2 years bathing me is a whole other story! True, like the instructor said it lets you know first hand how the patient will feel while you are abthing them, so you will want to treat them with dignity but being an overweight gal I am uncomfortable with this because I will have to look at these classmates for the next 2 years. Did anyone else ever do this as part of their curriculum? I don't mean to freak out but I never heard of this. They can stick me with all the needles they want for practice, but bathe the mannequins...lol :uhoh3:

Around here, the various advanced practice nursing programs go to the medical school and perform the procedures they need to practice

( lady partsl exams, prostate checks, etc.) on paid models. Hmmmm...maybe I should look into that as my new summer job.... :chuckle

we are doing bed baths, hair care, oral hygeine and massage on each other today.

We did the sponge bath. We wore a swimsuit and shorts, or shorts and tank tops.. The only time I had to really show my body was for IM shots. We where pair up. We gave each other the shots. I was more worried about the shot than my bare butt.. good luck to you..

Several of our instructors told us that they had to practice EVERYTHING on each other, including peri-care!:eek: :imbar :eek: Better them than me. Like other people said, it would even be better with a stranger than with someone you'd be with for the next two years! I'm close with some of my classmates, but that's just a little too close!

I survived the bath. It was not as bad as I imagined. My partner and I washed each others arms and legs below the knee. Then we brushed our own teeth. We were behind a curtain so the instructor had no idea. There was no way I was allowing her to touch my thighs.....LOL!!

I told a girl at my CPR class that we would probably have to bathe each other, among other things, and she was mortified. Just out of high school and a little bit innocent I think. I giggled inside.

We did head to toe assessments on each other. My partner was actually my co-worker from my job--we were in nursing school together! Not only was my partner fatter than I thought she was--I found out she had a pierced naval as well! I was a little surprised, but we made a big joke out of it, and all went well. Overall, most of us could have cared less, as we were all CNA's in our program (it was a requirement).

lol.. i have to do this too for class. i havent started school yet but i will start next wednesday, and then a week after that i think we will bathe each other. lol. im nervous about it, but im even more nervous about doing the injections on each other!:uhoh3:
