Do any of you student past and present have a spouse in college full time while you were/are in nursing school? If so how do you manage your time with family, school, homework? How did you manage it all and still get through school. My husband is working on becoming an elementary ed. school teacher, not nursing school. Also very time consuming My husband and I are trying to figure out how we are going to do it, so any suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Yes, my husband is also in school full-time, works full-time AND is in the Army National Guard. Because of this, I can't work. Sometimes I wish I could get a job as a tech in a hospital, but my husband's schedule is different from week to week. He graduates in a few weeks though! Yeaa! Basically, the time we spend as a family is quality time. He's an awesome father! We spend as much time as we can together as a family. :)

my husband and I are going to be enrolled at the same time as well. thank goodness though, we don't have any kids and he is going to be doing the majority of his coursework by distance learning. it still gets crazy though, you just learn to handle a messy house and cook lots of casseroles on the weekends to reheat and eat during the week!

My fiance and I are both attending full time, and I have a 4 yo daughter. We're staying unmarried for a reason, though. I get a lot of grant money as a single mom, and it allows me to work less. We have it arranged to where we work opposite shifts so that someone will always be home with her at night, and it looks like we'll have 3 nights all together. It's difficult, but so worth it. If one of us had decided to wait on school untill the other finished that person would have been miserable.

I have a friend in school who is divorced and has 3 kids. She is engaged but they decided not to get married until she was done with school for the same reason! She gets a boat load of money. Good luck though. My hubby and I work the opposite shift schedule too so that our daughter does not have to attend daycare.

My husband is currently finishing his first year of medical school, which is his full time job and I never see him. Why I decided to go back to school right now is beyond me, but I have made it through one semester so far, working full time (luckily I work from home currently) and taking care of my 6-year-old daughter and 16-month-old daughter. It is extremely stressful and I am exhausted, but I am determined to finish. I start the nursing program this July and will graduate one year before him. My husband is supportive of my decision and I am going to school when my oldest is in school so at least my kids don't feel abandoned by their parents. Where there is a will there is a way!

:o I remember a sad story from a friend many years ago. She was an RN and she was married to a man going to medical school to become a doctor. This RN and her parents paid for all of his medical school expenses. After he totally finished medical school he dumped her and their brand new baby. :crying2:

My brother went to med school with a wife and 3 kids (he's graduating his residency this year at age 38).... it's such a big sacrifice those first few years, so I'm sure it's tough on you guys, Dramaluvr!

When I was doing pre-reqs (and not a pre-nursing student at the time, either), my husband and I both took classes.... he turned out to just not be college material, bless his heart, and dropped out. :o

OH BOY well I have 5 kids 14,11,4,2,1 . My husbands is a full time Engineering student @ UTA and I am full time At Tarrant County finishing up my prewrecks for my BSN\ADN who knows. We dont have a babysitter I watch them M-TH all day, all night ,do homework(along with mine) So he can go to school. I take internet classes right now but all should change in Jan when I start RN school hopefully. My husband watches then from F- Sun so I can cram in 44 hours of dreadfull LVN work.I have no time to myself , my husband and I went out for the first time in 3 years last Saturday. I do manage to make homemade meals everyday , get everyone elses homework done and finally see the bed about 2 am every morning . Only to wake up at 6 AM to do it all over again. Having three toddlers will kill you they climb on everything ,eat everything, make the biggest messes. How do I cope I dont know? My husband has several years to go in school. The only thing that helps me is that there will be some point where it will be all over or at least I thought. My husband came to me last night and ask if I thought he was smart enough to earn his Docterate.. Lord have mercy Good luck with your juggeling . I truley believe that there is a great reward in the end.....

My Husband And I Were Both In School At The Same Time. I Am Out Now But He Is Still In School. He Worked At A Hospital The Days (or Nights) He Was Off. I Worked The Nights I Was Off. We Have 2 Kids And Thankfully Our Parents Kept Them. We Got Grants And Loans To Survive Off Of. We Lived Beside His Parents (which Didnt Cost Us A Thing) So That Helped A Lot. We Drove Paid For Cars. And We Did Without All The Extra Stuff We Didnt Have To Have. Sometimes We Have To Do Without For A Little While And It Will All Be Worth It One Day. It Is Already So Much Better Now That I Am Out. And It Will Be Even Better When He Gets Out. Hope It All Works Out For You.:)

There is a husband and wife that are doing all the prereqs. together now in my micro class. They plan of applying and going through the program together.
