As I was Watching ER tonight(tv show)....

Nursing Students General Students

Here is the play by play.

A pt. coughed up some vomit on a new graduate nurse working in the ER, and immediatly afterwards, the new grad took over her gloves and stated that "I did not go to nursing school for this, I QUIT" and walks out.

I was laughing histerically at the depiction of this. I'm not saying that it never happens, but seemed to dog on nurses a little bit, or at least some of the stereotypes of the field.

I thought the nurse quit because the guy pulled out a rat??

lol, I found that funny as well. actually, she got puked on, THEN the pt. brought out the dead rat that bit him.

yeah they did kind of play on the 'dumb blonde nurse' stereotype, but hey, that show does a lot of that and I'm not offended.

They rag more on the docs than the nurses. You'll rarely see a nurse screwing up something BIG, ER usually shows doctors messing up hardcore or slacking or talking to someone in the bathroom on a cell phone because they odn't know what in the same hell they're doin

I must have not seen that part, only seen where the kid vomited blood all over the window.

That is the ONE show.. well, that and Survivor.. that I like to try to watch every week.

I wonder what's going on with Abby? We think maybe her character is going to go to med school.

I love ER, but have clinicals on Wed,Thurs from 3-9 and then we have post conference, and I have an hour and 15 min. drive home. I only got to see about the last 5 min. I wonder if there is a website where we could check out the highlights of the shows? Probably not. I was just wondering why Abby is wanting to borrow money? Also, I missed last weeks show.

manna... yeah I was thinking she was going to go back to med school too.. but we will see..

She wont goto med school.. if you watched from the very begginning.. she was a L&D nurse.. then she went to medical school and was a 2nd year med student. She dropped out because she liked nursing better.

I thought the nurse yelling "I quit" was funny.. I thought about all those people in my nursing class that are like that.

actually she didn't drop out of med school... Her now ex-hubby was supposed to pay her tuition but he didn't, so they dropped HER from med school...

I just read in an ER spoiler that next week she reveals she IS going back to med school (apparently she was supposedly an M3 when she had to quit!), and that another nurse (Laura somebody) is going to take her place. Guess we'll have to wait and see...

I thought it was a bit ridiculous of the new nurse to walk out. I mean, didn't she get a taste of what a hospital would be like during school? Her first words were (I think), something like, "That guy blew his nose on my shirt!"

It made me laugh but it also made me scratch my head. So she went through nursing school only to quit nursing on her first day as a nurse? Why give up all that education and sacrifice? Or maybe she just didn't like the ED. Or maybe I'm reading too much into this.

You would be AMAZED at the number of new nurses that I have seen leave in the first year after graduation.

i though it was funny to see one of the doctors making a derogatory remark about the new nurses "tweety bird" scrubs especially since whether or not scrubs with prints are really professional looking has been debated on this board frequently.;)
