I wouldn't worry about anything heavy-duty. There are programs that you probably already have on your hard drive that you don't even know are there, that can help you. Oftentimes "bundles" of software come along for the ride; scan through your programs menu to see if you have any useful goodies!
Beyond that, most of what you're likely to do (if not all) is workable in a Word document. Get familiar with the setting options so you can change the layouts, use tables, etc. I bet you'll be fairly literate before long!
Our first semester Freshman year we had to make a "personal website" that had little factiods about us on it. It was easy because they had a template already set up so all we had to do was fill in the spaces. Second semester for a presentation my group chose to do brochures. Other than that it's just papers and, at our school, a lot of powerpoint for presentations. If you have a group to work with usually there is atleast 1 person who is really good w/ those things so you don't have to worry about it (I'm not very good on the computer either).
If you have any trouble, I'm sure there are a few friendly and willing students to help you out!

I have to make up a teaching brochure, which is taking me longer than it did to do the research! I am not that technologically inclined, and am worried I will have even more assignments that require me to be well versed in microsoft. EEK!
