"used to be" class of 2006! waaaaah

Nursing Students General Students

Okay, I got the bad news last week, but did not have the heart to come back here until I licked my wounds a little. :o I got my rejection letter, and an answer to an email from the nursing counselor telling me, it could be 2-3 semesters more before i get accepted!!!! I first applied in Feb. 2003, and they are just now getting to the feb.2002's. :crying2: If i was a straight A or mostly A's, I could've gotten in right away, but alas i am not. Anywhere from 200-300 students apply to the nursing program each semester, with only 30-40 being accepted. Half of them are taken by highest grades (in the impor. pre-reqs), i have C's and one A. the other half are from the chronological list, which is what i've been shoved on. I'm soooo bummed, because when i first started taking classes, there wasn't that much interest, so i could've gotten in as soon as i was finished with my pre-reqs! Now it's totally impacted.

Anyone out there like me? I will continue to take classes, so that i keep fresh, but i am feeling discouraged. Any words of wisdom/encouragement from anyone, I could really use it!

Definitely find another way!!!

The best (IMHO) would be to take an LVN/LPN course, then enroll in Excelsior College for the RN program. It will take about the same amount of time (or shorter, or longer, depending on how you manage the EC part--I did mine in about 4-1/2 months and am now just waiting to do the clinical exam), plus you can work once you get the LVN part done!

Mostly, don't give up! You can do it!!!

I guess i haven't wanted to do the LVN program because it takes about the same amount of time as the rn program, and i feel like i just can't do that to my kids for 2 years, then do it again with 2 more years for the RN prgram. Could you send me info or link to excelsior college? thanks! Heather

and P.S. I NEVER give up!!! :nurse:

That sucks not letting you retake C's

i am so sorry to hear about the bad news!

Don't give up! I'm pulling for ya! :)

Thanks everyone, you all are my greatest support! :saint:

I'm a-waiting too. I've decided to make the best of it and take classes I'll need for my BSN. I'll have an ADN degree + 1 year for my BSN and only one year to go to complete my BSN. Good stuff if I can be more competetive in the job market and make more money. I consider it a blessing. :)

Not to worry, lots of us waiting. You're not alone. Hang in there!

I'm sorry to hear about the (seemingly endless!) wait to get into a nursing program. Hang in there! In the meantime, if you can't retake any classes & you're done with your general education requirements, look at your local college's catalog to see what other classes they offer that will look good on your resume. Or you can volunteer at local hospitals or other health care facilities.

While I was waiting, I took Deaf Culture & American Sign Language classes. It was very informative and while I haven't had any deaf patients yet, it will come in very handy when I do.

Keep busy, & the time will pass quickly!

That would be good to be a LPN/LVN for training purposes. Also something that goes right along with that. LVN's/LPN's usually only compete with other LVN'S/LPN'S to get into RN programs so the chances of you getting in are higher, your not competing with all of CA.:)

I'm sorry ya'll. How about an LPN program? Or even a CNA program to at least get some training in and feel like you are doing something towards your future goals?
