Your BEST AN memory- in honor of Brian

So this unthinkable tragedy has happened. Grief and disbelief are expected and appropriate.

I propose a thread to leave your BEST AN memory- in honor of Brian.

I'll go first: I discovered ESME and I went to nursing school together back in the Dark Ages.

Now, you share yours......

Specializes in geriatrics.

I made a friend on AN soon after joining and found a job through her. I remained at the same job for more than four years.

AN got me through the wee morning hours and boredom on my nights off. I used to work permanent nights in a small town. Nobody was awake except for my online friends.

My life is different now, but I've continued to visit. Thanks!

Specializes in Community, OB, Nursery.

Gosh, where to start?

I've become friends with so many people thanks to AN. Some I've been fortunate enough to meet IRL, others live in my computer and my heart. I've been lucky enough to face-to-face meet Brian, Joe V, sirI, traumaRus, NRSKarenRN, tnbutterfly, madwife2002, Roy Fokker, donsterRN, NotReady4PrimeTime, and VickyRN. Have yet to meet many many more friends whom I only know via social media but consider them my dear friends all the same. There are too many to list.

A few years ago Brian gave all the mod staff $25 gift cards to Kiva.org, the microloan agency. I have regifted that $25 probably half a dozen times to small business owners all over the planet.

I am still processing so much and don't want to say more publicly, but I am grateful to AN for a whole lot.

Specializes in LTC, assisted living, med-surg, psych.

Although I never met Brian in person, I've talked to him on the phone and exchanged PM's with him on a number of occasions when I was a moderator. He was always so encouraging and kind, even when we talked about serious stuff like staying off the political forums and watching my tone in my posts. I learned a lot from him and am already missing him something fierce. :(

Just the support and encouragement I have received over the years. I live in a small somewhat repressed area. Some of my thought process is and can be direct, and other times a tad sarcastic. My thinking is not always mainstream.

I have felt largely supported by many, many, MANY. Karen, Viva, Linda, Cape Cod, sirl........and so many others.

People have understood my voice. Whether they agree with it or not is something else entirely...however, lively debate is a good thing.

Specializes in LTC, CPR instructor, First aid instructor..

Over the 14+ years I have been a a member, I have posted photos, been given encouragement, received calls from some of the staff when I was hospitalized, Was awarded a Spotlight Member certificate, and interviewed by NurseKaren when I had no idea she was interviewing me for a congratulatory thread posted on the Allnurses website to me, became friends with other nurses, remember when Jnette was an LPN and what she said to me after she received her RN, her first job as an RN was in dialysis, have laughed at the funny threads, have enjoyed the cartoons Brian created, and will always remember when he made me a premium member. I am confident our memories will live on at this website. It has such a great bunch of nurses, CNAs, educators, staff of all kinds, and members. My hat is off to you all.

Brian created a cyber home for me here, and I love it dearly.

Specializes in psychiatric.

I had a welcome email from Brian when I joined, I had no idea who he was at the time but I thought it was wonderful to be welcomed personally.

My favorite thing about AN is the laughs I get, I really live for those occasional threads that make me spit coffee....the deers and walking home thread is the most recent to come to mind. Brian must have LOVED reading some of the stuff that comes up.

You should all be proud of yourselves for helping him make this site a success and a home away from home for many of us. Most people just don't get nursing humor, thank goodness for AN.

My favorite thing is the outpouring of support that the members get when they are going through their own personal trials. I wrote an article about my journey with ADHD and, man, I felt the love.
