Who do I give my resignation letter to?

I have to give in my resignation letter by Friday. Do I have to give it to my nurse manager, director of nursing and human resources? That would mean I need 3 resignation letters? I have never done this before and am literally sick to my stomach about this. My NM, DON and HR are all miserable and I know they are going to torture me about leaving. Please Help!!!! Thank You

just give it to your nurse manager.. it's hard to hand those in i know.. but it will be okay i promise... just be sure it's 2 weeks notice and it will be fine... keep me posted on how it goes

No one should torture you about leaving. Just give adequate notice 2 weeks or more, and hand it to your manager in person. It is difficult to hand those in. Just know you are making the best decision for you.

Give the original to your NM & mail a copy to HR with tracking or return receipt requested. Also, make sure that you know your hospital's policy for the amount of notice needed. It can vary from 2 weeks to a month, or equal to the amount of yearly vacation/PTO that can be accrued.

If I had not thought to mail a copy of a resignation letter to HR, I would have been in a lot of trouble because the NM never told anyone I was resigning & she had to go out on sick leave the last couple of weeks that I was at this hospital. The shift before last when I started to say goodbye, I was called into the DON's office and told that I did not give proper notice and could not resign. If it had not been for the receipt of the letter in HR, I would have had to stay or risk a future reference because of being made a DNR.

I would give the original copy to your NM. I would mail a copy to HR and have it sent so that you get a receipt of date and time received. I would also email a copy to you NM, HR, and the DON and save the email so that you have that as well.
