I want to be a nurse; i really do.

But sometimes I feel like I want more; I feel like I wanna be more than a nurse at times.

What are some other careers out there related in the medical field?

dang india, if your boyfriend couldn't handle you going to nsg school r/t being too 'stupid', how in God's name will he handle your higher aspirations?

sigh...

i don't know honey.

nurse practitioner?

if you're intent on staying with him, be careful as to how he shows his 'support'.

Might I suggest breaking up with your boyfriend and becoming a NURSE! :heartbeat

You're very young, and have your whole life ahead of you. If, after a few years of being a nurse, you want to get more education, you could become a nurse practitioner or CRNA or even get your MPH and/or PHD! That is, if you don't allow your boyfriend to allow you to feel stupid! From what I've heard, the sky is the limit in nursing, and there are many paths to choose with your RN and also many advanced degrees you can pursue once you have your RN.

Did I mention that you deserve better? You're hardly an "old maid" and in my opinion, it's better to be single and focusing on your goals and aspirations than to be in a bad relationship! :redpinkhe

Is there 'more' than being a nurse?

You're 17/18...there are many specialties that you can enter into as a nurse, but first things first, you have to become a nurse.

If you click on the specialty tab and then nursing specialties, there is a whole list of many kinds of nurses, but again, you have to be a nurse first.

If you don't mind me asking, how did you do in high school? Do you have good study habits, because I just don't want you to be shocked when you get to college and realize how stiff the competition is. Realistically, you have to have almost, if not, perfect grades. Is that kind of commitment something you are in a position to handle?

...and just cuz' I can't seem to shut up when I should today, I feel like the ordeal with your b/f is something that a mature, ready-to-proceed-to-the-next-phase-of-her-life kind of person shouldn't have to defend as "joking". You should be looking at that from a perspective of watching some horrid talk show, as you scream at the tv one more time because the woman just seriously uttered the infamous words..."BUT I LOOOOVVVEEEE HIM"

Go see a guidance counselor.

I honestly was looking into that.

They earn $58,000 per year.

But, I want to go to college.

For this job, you can just attend a vocational program; & thats not what i wanna do.

India, I read through all of your posts since october 2007 and I agree with RN1989...go see a guidance counselor. Get some direction from someone who can help you narrow your interests in the medical field.

India, I let a boyfriend side track me. I'm now 38 and into my second semester of pre-reques. I don't regret every decision I have made. But as you can see, the decision about the boyfriend had a longterm impact on my life. How important is your relationship? Do YOU think you are smart enough to be "just a nurse"? Do YOU think you are smart enough to go beyond nursing?

What if you started with just one semester? There are classes that are required for just about every degree. Speech, Comp I and II, Algebra. Most higher level science courses (required for nursing) have pre's that you have to take, biology, chemistry. Could you started with some of these and go from there?

What is it that you like about your boyfriend? We only got a few lines. I think you maybe looking for an excuse to move on. Otherwise why would you come here and share such personal info? What if you got pregnant by this guy. Is he they type of person you would want as your babies daddy? Being a grown up requires the tough decisions.

Who you want to be when you grow up is a very important decision. I have told my kids I do not want them making this decision the first year after school. I want them to go on a mission trip or to another city to live volunteer for an organization anything. I think that first year of being a grown up is tough.

I think you are underestimating how difficult nursing school and the career itself is. Or maybe I am "reading" you wrong. I agree with seeing a guidance counselor. And, if I am not mistaken, have you not graduated high school yet? Shouldn't you be going to prom and all that fun stuff....instead of worrying about careers, money and the like? :(
