Did they tell you what number you are on the waiting list?

It depends on where you are on the alternate list. My school accepts 20 students per semester, and I was #2 on the alternate list the semester I applied. I was ultimately accepted. It'll just depend on how many accepted applicants decide to go elsewhere :redbeathe Best of luck!

WOW, 18 is an extremely small class size for an ABSN (though if you ask me it's nice). Usually the smallest class I have seen is around 40 or 50 per semester but they usually are separated in sections. Getting off waitlist depends on how many accepted students accept their class space. That could change from year to year, so I would definitely have a Plan B in place as opposed to just waiting and hoping.

Then again, I am not familiar with this school and they may be different from others. Someone already attending this school would know best since they have been through this.

Nope, I asked them but they didn't know...I don't know why they don't know about this.

Could you call and ask to speak to someone who could find out? There is a huge difference between being #5 on the waiting list and #300!

i know... and they just prefer to answer by e-mail only which makes me so frustrated.

The nursing program I was thinking about (and have since decided not to attend there) was also very evasive about their wait list information last summer/fall. I was told I could apply for spring 2010 start, but since I still had about 6 "recommended you take before applying but not really pre-reqs" classes to take I'd likely be an alternate. I asked how many alternates they take, and of those how many are ultimately offered a spot before the program starts, and they said they don't give out that information. I would think they would at least have the statistics from previous years! I'm pretty fed up with this school (I'm still taking pre-reqs there because it's cheap, I'm not going to try to get into their nursing program)...

Sorry your program's not being more cooperative. But remember, lots of people apply to more than one school, and many things come up when making decisions about where to go (money, life, moving, family, changes of heart, professional opportunities) - and there's the potential of accepted students turning down their spot - so if you're near the top of the list, keep your hopes up!!! Good luck, I hope you get some answers!

I was chosen as an alternate for my accelerated nursing program. I was freaked out too. Some of the people that were accepted I question how they even made it. Four people dropped out in the first month. I ended up getting accepted. I did have to sacrifice and move to a small crappy town, but hey I got in! Someone will decline. You have a strong chance. :lol2:

I wouldn't put off other options if you have them but if not I guess there isn't anything to do but wait. The good news is that one of my best friends from school was called a week before classes started. Fingers crossed!

thank you for the answers! and it helps a lot to me~=) now, can i know the particular reasons why you are not going to try to get into their nursing program? thank you!

similar issues with not being able to get information out of them about attrition rates, average gpas, statistics on nclex passing on which try number, and employability of their graduates. the nursing advisors were unhelpful and rude, and i've heard mixed things about the program. i did take my cna course through this school and was very unimpressed with the organization and clinical teaching/supervision/presence. we had 4 clinical days, and 4 different clinical instructors. none of them knew anything about our requirements or signed us off on anything. it was extremely frustrating, and i've heard similar concerns about the rn program clinicals.

i have a previous bachelor's, so i decided to bite the tuition bullet and go for an accelerated bsn. :)

i hope everything works out for your program!!!
