What do you do on your break at work?

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I work nights. SOme of our staff nap, some eat, some play on the computer. Last fall we have the Leonid Meteor showers and a colleague and I went to the beach on our break to watch it. It was the coolest thing I have ever seen in my life! Do any of you do interesting or unusual stuff during your break at work????

Break? Are you talking about actually breaking something? As in, "Did you break the tv?" That has to be it because breaks at work is folklore. You know you can't believe that stuff!

Seriously, I usually end up with a pepsi (ok, with whiskey-don't tell) and put my feet up. I don't usually go outside as that would mean more walking and that's the last thing I wanna do. Then I brush my teeth and use some listerine--ya know, so I don't have whiskey breath. :)

I work on a very slow unit....sometimes the nurses outnumber the patients!!! On weekends and nights, we usually watch "training films"....new releases! But when we get busy, we are busy. Usually up to our ears with paperwork....that's what takes up the time, more so than the patients. Sometimes I feel like my day is one long break....other times I don't get one. So I can't complain about busy days. I actually look forward to them!

Where's this job and do they have any openings for a CNA?

Eat. VERY FAST. I'm usually called back. My breaks are very short. If I leave the floor, I usually visit with friends and hide for the full 30 minutes.

I am a smoker, but I only take a few quick breaks and rarely get through a whole cig without getting called away (I am the night shift supervisor so I get called a LOT.) Other than that, I jump on here because my computer at home is on the fritz!

My break consists of 10-15 minutes of choking the hospital cafe food down. The only other time I sit during the shift is when I am on the potty and no matter if it is the abbrievated lunch or potty time the beeper continues to go off. Gee, no wonder I need a break (no pun intended)
