Hey all!

I'm in the process of applying for an RN-BSN program and out of curiosity, would love to hear what kind of position those of you with BSNs currently hold (please don't respond if you have higher degrees).

Management? Research? Community/public health?

Are you still working the unit of your specialty?

And please feel free to share what other certifications and trainings you've received to help beef up your credentials! I'm in the mood to be inspired about continuing my education and would love to hear you brag. :)

Specializes in Emergency.

Where I live and work that (BSN) does not make much of a difference. Although, I did get it in the name of "future job security" and I like continuing my education so it bolsters that ideal...once I actually get the physical piece of paper I'm going to put it in a nice frame

Specializes in NICU.

In Canada - you need a BSN to be an RN....so I'm just workin...being an RN with my degree ^_^

Specializes in Critical Care and ED.

I work in informatics. I would not have been able to get this job without a BSN as it was a requirement. I was hired 3 months after graduating with my BSN. I did the RN to BSN program.

Specializes in OB-Gyn/Primary Care/Ambulatory Leadership.

I was able to get a position with a research group with my BSN.

Specializes in CCU, SICU, CVICU.

BSN is basically a requirement even for bedside in a lot of markets now, so I'm still working bedside. Hopefully I'll be going back to grad school soon, so having the BSN already saves me a few steps!

Specializes in SICU, trauma, neuro.

I'm still working the ICU bedside position I was working before I got it. I don't really have any desire to leave the bedside, although if/when the physical aspects become an issue I might consider working for an OPO. I mainly got my BSN 1) in the event we'd move for my husband's work -- I would likely have trouble getting a similar position with an ADN. and 2) for personal fulfillment. :)

Many people use the BSN to establish eligibility to be considered for jobs.

Specializes in school nurse.

I got a school nurse license (separate thing from my nursing license and it requires a BSN) and work in a public school.
