Curious at what the average age is that people are in nursing school?

I am doing my pre reqs now and will be 28 when I start! :lol2:

25 years old and I felt like an old ladt in my class, most of the students were under 21!!!! :lol2:

I started Nursing School at age 45 started out as Bio major then switch to Nursing graduated in May with BSN. I wil be 53 in October. It has been a dream since I was 12 years old to be a nurse I have finally accomplished it. The people I attended school with just took me under there wings thank God.

I was 22 when I started LPN school will be 23 when I graduate. I plan to have my BSN before I am before I turn 28.

I recently turned 40 and will begin Nursing school in June. I have a previous degree and worked in bookkeeping unhappily for the past 15 years. I am so excited about being a nurse.....a dream for many years. I do not at all feel like the old one at school. It never crosses my mind. I will be 42 when I am done.

I am 34 and starting the Nursing Program. Better late than never right? :wink2: It has always been a dream of mine to become a nurse. Now my dream is coming true.

I'll be brutally honest here. I'm tired of seeing these kind of questions being posted here ( of course, it's just my opinion). It sounds like a person asking this kind of question is not sure of her/his decision in life, so posting this question will generate responses that would comfort her/him. If the person is really curious, asking "how do you feel getting into nursing school at your age" is a better question.

Unless a person is absolutely sure that he/she will be dead in a week, why would this person just make a decision to get in a nursing school and stands strong with his/her decision regardless of the age ---but if a person is WEAK, he/she always needs somebody to assure her/him that she/he is alright, Got IT? :nono:

Now, let's all take a sip and think about this idea; will ya?

Started LPN school at 50 and then got my RN through Excelsior (already had a BA) when I was 56. I paid my "hospital dues" as an LPN, so was only in my early 50's. There is no way I could do hospital nursing in my late 50's - energy is needed if you are a newbie! However, I definitely feel that age has been a benefit in nursing since so many of the patients are more likely to listen to an older nurse than a nurse younger than their grandchildren! There are many jobs out there for older nurses once you have experience of a couple years. I am now 66 and work part time by choice but could walk into full time tomorrow if I wanted.

I graduated with an ADN at 32. However my mom age 59 and her best friend age 62 just graduated in december 06 with an ADN. My mom was a retired school teacher and her best friend was a retired accountant. They wanted a change. I give them both two thumbs up for making it, but I do hope they both can handle 12 hour stressful days.........GO MOM!!

I started my nursing pre-reqs when I was 25. I was married and working full-time. Then, I got divorced and had to cut back on my classes to take on more work. I entered the BSN program in 2005 at age 27, got re-married (very happy!), and will graduate this May at age 29! Most of the students in my class are in their early 20's, but there are some of us who are older. Even though I have sometimes wished that I would've started earlier, I am appreciative of the work and life experience that I gathered during my early twenties. I feel more prepared now to handle this type of work and I know that nursing is what I want to do.
