I'm looking at this job application right now and it states that the hours are: 12 hour shifts from 7am-7pm w variable hours possible as needed, must be willing to work 2 weekends ot of the 4.

What does the variable hour part mean?

Specializes in Pediatrics, Emergency, Trauma.

Variable may mean that you may have to rotate to another shift; at least that is what was meant when I went for my current position .

You can try to contact the HR rep for more clarification as well; I would just in case it meant something else.

Specializes in Acute Care Pediatrics.

Yeah, I would assume it means they may need you 7-3, 3-3, etc. I'd ask for clarification if you get an interview. :)

My last two jobs were classified as "variable." Basically, I could come in 11-11, 1p-1a, 3p-3a, over night, or any 8 hour shift over that time span to cover holes in the schedule.

I would think it meant varying shifts within that shift time frame (7-11, 7-3, 11-7 maybe?). Usually if it is rotating shifts, it will say that specifically.
