  1. Good question! I haven't noticed a lot of that either...I start my first day today and will keep an eye out.
  2. Do you work in a hospital or private practice?
  3. She was doing both because she told me that I wouldn't always have time to put on gloves. But, as a brand new graduate nurse I have learned that it only takes a few seconds to put gloves on to protect yourself and the patient. I haven't asked the doctors personally about it, but I'm assuming they must know.
  4. Hi all! I just accepted my very first RN job at a large private practice. Everything seems nice about it. The fact that I will work 9am-5pm M-F, have weekends and holidays off just seems great. I did take a $3-$5 cut in pay though and I will be the ONLY RN working there. All the other nurses there are LPNs. Anyways, I had something that was brought up to me the other day that I find totally shocking. One of the nurses who has worked there for 20+ years has been helping me out with getting all the information I need about this job. She had mentioned to me that one of the other LPNs thought it was strange and "unnecessary" that I wore gloves every time I gave a flu shot or allergy shot the day I shadowed, and I was told that the nurses won't always have enough time to put them on and I'll soon learn their ways.......WHAT?! When she told me this I was so dumbfounded! I couldn't believe she said that..But, I'm going to do what's right and safe for the patient and whats safe for me, which is to wear gloves!! I just wanted to know what anyone else thought of this situation and if they have ever been told the same thing, or something similar before and what you did in that situation.
  5. Congrats to you!! May I please have that medication list you mentioned? My email is [email protected]
  6. I'm looking at this job application right now and it states that the hours are: 12 hour shifts from 7am-7pm w variable hours possible as needed, must be willing to work 2 weekends ot of the 4. What does the variable hour part mean?
  7. Samt9 posted a topic in Hospice, Palliative
This may be a silly question, but I don't have any clue about Hospice nursing and mileage and I would like to know more about what that means? Do all Hospice jobs require you to travel to patient's homes?
  8. When I hand off report..
  9. I was just wondering if you get to pick the hours you want to work for this type of job and can you start home health as a new grad?
  10. I will be graduating in May and was wondering if I would be able to start in PACU w/o doing 1-2 years of med-surge?
  11. I was just wondering what kind of RN nursing jobs you can get with those hours? 8am-4pm or 7am-5pm
  12. Do you need to work at a hospital on the med surge unit for the first 2 years of the beginning of your RN career? Also, what jobs pay the best..hospital jobs, nursing home jobs, clinic jobs?... By the way, I live in upstate Ny and I'm not even sure where I can find a job besides CPH, MMH, St Regis Nursing home, Highland nursing home...Does anyone else know of any places by where I live that I could get a RN job at?
  13. I really like all of the answers I'm getting from everyone! It's giving me more confidence. I have been feeling kind of scared I guess about graduating, passing the NCLEX, and getting a job! It's all happening so fast. But, it's so good to know that I don't HAVE to start my career at a hospital. I live in upstate New York, so I'm trying to look for every place possible that I could work as an RN near my area.
  14. That's great to hear! I just keep getting told that the hospital is where every new grad should start and I just wasn't sure if I agreed with that or not.
  15. I will be graduating this May, and then taking the NCLEX for my RN. I'm excited to start my new career. My question is; Is it better to start working at a hospital or at a clinic? Or does it not really matter?
