Update on the new job

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I am halfway through week 6 in my home health job and I am on Cloud Nine! I was put out on my own way earlier than I thought I would be and I have my own caseload now. I've got a full load and was told by my preceptor that it usually takes longer for nurses new to HH to carry a full load, so I'm happy! I love being able to concentrate on one person at a time and I'm finding out that home health nurses make a difference just as much as ER nurses do, just in different ways.

The only problem I'm having is Hubs and the kids are complaining because I'm not home to make dinner........:uhoh3::uhoh3:

Specializes in Med Surg, Hospice.

CONGRATULATIONS Tazzi! I'm so happy for you that this is working out!

What a wonderful growing experience for everyone involved! Not only do you get your dream job, but the DH and DKs learn how to cook their OWN darn food! (I'm a firm believer in self-sufficiency!)

Congrats!

They do know how to cook....or rather, Hubs and DD do....DS seems to be afraid of the stove.....but the problem is they refuse to cook because they can't cook as well as I can so they would rather open a can or nuke something frozen, and just sit there looking pitiful when I walk in the door.

I can identify... I'm the cook in my household, and some days I just get plain SICK of it. :trout: Being the better cook is a curse!

Specializes in midwifery, gen surgical, community.

Silly girls,

In my younger days I once made a surf and turf dish - spag bol with added tuna fish cooked in a slow cooker.

Guess who doesn't do the cooking in my house.

Pleased you are enjoying your new job Tazz.

It's great that you're enjoying the job!

I'd also consider what can be done with a slow cooker and/or electric roaster. Some people swear by them.

give the dear ones some receipes, do the slo-cooker thing..freeze leftovers, everyone will adapt

being happy going to work and happy going home is a good life
