Unethical Practices?

Nurses General Nursing

Published

you guys really need to chill out and not take things so seriously really. anywho. this was an experiment for my thesis on Nursing unions and strength in numbers. my theory is based in two parts rounded up by the theory that US Nurses are a stronger group hence why they are paid more, more respected etc and UK Nurses are weak etc thats why they get paid less.

Thanks anyway. i appear to have gotten a first (an A) for a well written and insightful if not unusual study, which will go towards what is my second PhD.

Is it just me, or is anyone else a bit hopeful that someone from Allnurses.com made it perfectly clear that they will not be the platform for unethical "studies?" Clearly here, informed consent did not take place, as well as a whole other slew of violations of the Belmont Report, the Nuremburg Code, etc as outlined for ethical research.

Although I'm confused why a doctoral candidate would be working on a thesis rather than a dissertation, but anyway.

I would HOPE that rather than pointing the finger at bonafide Allnurses members for biting back at what turned out to obviously be a thread meant to provoke, that they would take a hard look at the post above and make sure this doesn't happen again.

If this very serious issue has already been addressed, I think we'd like to be reassured that we are in fact, safe here, and that this type of unethical practice has been deterred.

Thank you.

suzy that was not necessarily directed at you. read the closed thread and you can see what pushes us over the line. Frankly, I think it was wrong to close that thread but it was done anyhow. this one is headed that way w/some of the things we are saying here. read what Karen said, and don't take my post personally, ok?

I didn't take it personally Deb; I guess it was a rhetorical question. And I guess if I get banned because I call someone on the carpet regarding the treatment of us as subjects, and unethical research, so be it. At least I won't be a victim of such practices.

We really don't know if this Jay Bird is telling the truth or not - do we? We can speculate, but do we really know? Anyway, I think it needs to be addressed. Hence the reason for this thread.

Suzy,

He/she says on his/her profile that he/she is a "lead nurse" (never heard of this title, maybe some of the other Brits have??) but in posts refers to him/herself as a student nurse.

He/she says that as a student nurse,he/she is managing the funding for a new HDU.I'm sorry, that is just not possible.

Evidence of not telling the truth?

The problem is once you notice inconsistencies like this,it is hard to take anything posted by this person as the truth.

How boring, another American blowing their own trumpet. American Nurses will never have the same standards or respect of we British Nurses. That is why we are in such demand all over the world, especially in America. Not many Americans working over in the UK though, I wonder why?

Uh, Kendal, I believe Jay Bird identifed himself/herself as from the UK, not the US.

Your generalization of American nurses came out of nowhere. and is horribly uncalled for and inappropriate.

I can't believe you jumped for the bait like that.

Hmmm.... interesting. Considering that I called he/she/it on being a student the other day, because it said STUDENT NURSE right in it's profile.

Someone's been doing some profile editing. I'd be interested in seeing how many of their posts have been edited recently too.
