Allnurses

This is my very first post, but I could not resist any longer. I am a nursing student and I have been enjoying this board for the last few months and though I just now logged in, I wanted to tell all of you how much I appreciate the intelligent and "real" conversations and advice that I find here.

Sometimes, I feel bad about the things that others are going through and sometimes I just laugh til it hurts. It is good to see that nurses have a great sense of humor.....which by the way is NOT allowed in nursing school. More importantly though is that I can see how much you all care for one another, your fellow nurses, and the profession itself. You are the reason that I get up at 4am and go to clinical and why I wrestle with my care plans until the wee hours of the morning...because I see that nurses are a wonderful, caring and intelligent bunch of people and because someday I hope to a part of that.

My fourth year of school will start in August and then only 2 semesters to go! I am very excited and nervous about that. I am 31, married and 3 kids, so it has been a long road. Thanks for the motivation!

God Bless!:

Hello,

Thank you all for such a warm welcome. I appreciate it!

By the way, I just wanted to say that I do find some of the things at clinical funny, I have just learned to hide it until the ride home. My professors favorite word was "professionalism" and she took everything very seriously. I had OB/Peds rotation and after many hours in the classroom practicing breathing techniques, including the "hee-hee-hoos" we were ready to assist the patients in labor.

At one point during the day we all went to the very small nurses station to give report on our patients and it was very crowded and noisy and we were all trying to whisper so as not to violate the confidentiality rule. I couldn't hear everything she was saying, I just heard the instructor say, "Just tell your patient to blow the f--ther"

I said WHAT??? what did you say? and she looked at me and very sternly said, "blow the feather".....you know the transition breathing exercises you all were supposed to learn???"

Well, too late, all the snickering had begun and I was so embarrassed! She told me to get my mind out of the gutter and gave me "the talk" after post report.

SO, now I just do not tempt fate, or the instructor.

Glad to report that I get all new instructors this fall, I have heard that they are all very nice and like to have fun as long as we are not doing anything to hurt the patient. Maybe I will have some funny stories to post on here..??

Thanks again to all...Gator

Gator,

I'm probably the only one here WITHOUT a warped sense of humor....but I'm trying to learn.

so sorry that i am just getting around to welcoming you to allnurses addiction big time! :rotfl: welcome!

it takes a great sense of humor around here to maintain as a nurse on the battlefield, and from reading your above post, you've already got what it takes to survive the war. :rotfl:

we're all here for you when you need a shoulder to cry on, a friend to cut up and act silly with, a prayer for what ails you or anyone you know, encouragement and inspiration, and lots and lots of patience because the majority of us are either nursing students, graduate nurses waiting for board results to hit their mailboxes so they can breathe again, newbie nurses who are jumping with glee because "they passed...they passed...now they are knee deep in donkey-doo"...and then...last but certainly never least.....all of us old seasoned nurses who are hanging on by a stitch these days. :rotfl: so...stick around...allnurses is like a box of chocolates...you never know what you're gonna get around here! :kiss :nurse:
