somethign to help prevent scarring

Im not asking for medical advice, Ive already had surgery and healing. I placed a dressing over the incision site (closed site with no drainage or anything) called hydrogel. its a white sheet, then placed a tegaderm over it to hold in in place. I did this as soon as the steri strips came off. I am hoping it will keep the incision moist and help keep it from scarring. Does anyone have any other ideas? Ive tried mederma before, it doesnt do anything. My work car is full of different types of dressings (Im a homehealth nurse) and was wondering if I should use something else. Thanks

My PT gave me this trick once that might be similar to your hydrogel. He had strips of sticky silicone that the hospital used with chest leads that they were going to throw out due to getting new system and cut out a strip of it washed it under water which removed the stickiness and i wore it over my scar for about a month when I slept or was at home...holding it on with a sweat band (the scar is on my ankle). It virtually created the same thing as the silicone scar strips they sell for $20+. It made my scar so soft and is now nonexistant. Honestly though I have heard that reapplying steri strips as they fall off for as long as you can deal with it is effective too.

Try Kelo-Cote, it's a scar gel. That's what I'm using on my incision following surgery for a broken arm. My doctor suggested something with silicone could help.

It's not cheap, but I found the best price on Amazon. I have used it before, and was happy with it. It's an ointment, you don't need any dressing but it leaves your skin tacky after application, and some people don't like that.

This is actually asking for medical advice. We don't have a clue where this scar is, what its a result of, anything and we don't need to know, that's not the point.

Please take this up with your provider that knows the details of your surgery - hope you get well quickly.
