SCABIES!!

So, one of the SNOOTIEST residents within our facility appears to have picked up a few unwanted friends. I have to admit, although unforunate, i find it giggle worthy. How and why, we may never know, but it seems to be spreading! Word has gotten around that these little critters are ready and willing to jump, so now everyone is paranoid! I get itchy everytime someone mentions it lol. My only hope is that THIS TOO shall pass, quickly!

Just FYI - in addition to the special medicated shampoo routine treatment for scabies, it includes administration of ivermectin, which is also given to dogs for parasite infections.

It just cracks me up that I had to take 'dog medicine' for the scabies that I picked up from one of my LTC residents.

It did pass quickly.

Ahh!! I'm Dealing with possible scabies rn, did Your facility provide the ivermectin or did your doctor? Patients at my facility were only treated with permethrin cream ! Did you ever feel pinprick sensations?

My friend got scabies once from a motel we stayed at for one of our overnight clinical's during school. I forget what it was, but she had to use that cream all over her body. Said she felt like her skin was on fire. She still has scars from it....and it's been two years.

Nothing makes me itch faster than hearing the word scabies. Ugh.

That's horrible !! Did how long did it take before her rash / symptoms presented ?

Generally speaking, if someone has not had scabies in the past it generally takes about 6 weeks after you become a host for the symptoms to start, as you have to form the antibodies first.

In other words, I wouldn't be laughing about this, since you and many other staff members were probably exposed before you knew she had them!!! Karma has a way of sneaking up on people...

Well we stayed at the same motel once a week for eight weeks...I want to say at about six weeks or so she started itching all over. Then a week or so after that she started getting rashes. Took her about another two weeks to go to a doctor though.
