Thank you Esme for posting the ratios!!! I KNEW Skilled nursing had a ratio as well; I'm going to share this with another thread. :)

Sounds very reasonable. Right now nurses in my area are negotiating with a hospital that bought our local hospital and the sticking point is not wages, benefits, etc. It is staffing ratios.

Thank you Esme for posting the ratios!!! I KNEW Skilled nursing had a ratio as well; I'm going to share this with another thread. :)

LOL you're welcome. I posted the link to the ratios to my post. :p

These are from the link in the OP j0yegan .

These are NOT ratios now but the proposed ones under the new legislation. THIS HAS NOT PASSED. THESE ratios do not exist yet these are the proposed ratios.

The last time this legislature was introduced was right before the stock market crash. These are the ratios that started the "nursing shortage" numbers.

You need to let your politicians know through letters and e-mails what your thoughts are.....I am hopeful but I doubt it will pass.

This is for anyone who ends up in the hospital. This isn't just a nurse issue. It's about the safety of patients.

I know they are proposed; there was a thread about signing a petition to include LTC; which include SNFs; since that is loophole to have more money by having skilled beds, one can say that it will include the proposed measures; I have since posted this into that thread, to show that I have been following this proposal as well as reached out to my Congressional Members, and to have something linked instead of stating something that I had no evidence readily available. :)

Texas has had a law several years now that requires nursing staff to participate in a safe staffing committee where ratios and other issues can be discussed and then presented to the Board of Directors/Administration. HR and the CNO sit on the committee. The law does not promote ratios, because nurses fought to have it more flexible as one patient can be too many sometimes. The idea is to have staffing mixes match patient need. I believe this system has good intent, but wonder if the follow-thru is effective, as we cannot change budgets and that is what drives staffing availibility.
