bonus? the regional trauma center i worked at for 25 years did everything in their power to make life unbearable for us long-term experienced nurses...it was far cheaper to dump us and fill our positions with a new, cheaper grad. ......granted, they didn't have a knowledge base or any experience but hey....that's what happens when hospital become buisnesses and is run by accountants! gladly i left there......finally....and am working at a community hospital that still values experience and rejoices in knowledge and i only lost a week of vacation in the process!:innerconf

I'm right there with mpccrn. I've never heard of any facility with a retention bonus! Most hospitals I've worked at couldn't wait for the door to hit the butt of long timers. I'm now a state employee in community health and this is the first time in my nursing career I didn't hit the max pay wall in just a couple years.

The hospital I work for has retention bonuses for all employees -- it is a county hospital and they start paying out retention bonuses (we call them "longevity" bonuses") after 8 years of service.

It is a certain percentage of your yearly salary -- it is something like 2%.. perhaps more. But employees usually get a check for well over $1,000. Some employees who have been working for like 20 years get quite a bit of money.

Most employees here also max out their salary after 10 years, so those bonuses are very helpful because the raises after that 10 year mark are only cost of living increases per the union contract.

Awhile back a hospital in South Carolina, near the beach, was offering $10,000.oo sign on for 2 years. I'm WAY too suspicious of that kind of payout, for 2 years of my life. Be very careful of selling yourself to the highest bidder.:no:

I'm an LPN in an outpatient dialysis center. A few months ago I received notification that I will recieve a $2,000.00 retention bonus in December. Every little bit helps.

Sign on bonuses are to attract new-hires, and are not, in any way, retention inticements. In fact, here, many nurses "hop" from sign-on to sign-on. I would like a bonus each and every time we have to endure a change in who sits in our nurse-manager slot or the CNO slot. Now THAT would encourage longevity and reward me for it! In the past 15 years (at one facility) of my 31 year career, I think we've had at least 7 different nurse managers and 5 or 6 CNO's.
