Philosophy of nursing

Nurses General Nursing

I apologize for the way I presented my question. Your all right and thank you for your honesty. I am currently in the LPN program and we were directed to this website and to do google searches for information.

I have found hardly anything regarding what goes into your philosophy. Is it from personal experieces or is it a theory, for example Florence Nightengale.

Are there any websites that I can go to and research information?

Thank you

It depends on what they are asking for. Do they want a paper on nursing theorists or your own philosophy of nursing? What goes into your own philosophy is just your own thoughts and feelings ususally based on your experiences.

I think everyone has a personal philosophy of nursing based on reading of theorists, personal values and personal experiences.

Read up on a couple of theorists. (For example Nightingale and Roy).

Examine how these fit your personal values and experiences

How will you apply their thoughts to your own nursing practice.

One thing I did when I had to write my own philosophy paper was visit different sites from nursing schools and see what their philosophy statement was. Didn't influence MY philosophy, but got my mind thinking in the right direction. That particular paper was one of the hardest to start but once I got going was one of the easiest to finish-just couldn't get my brain started.

I basically did the same thing. We had to submit a 12 page nursing philosophy, which I thought was insane. I googled nursing philosophies to get hints on what they actually were, and took it from there. I also completed my 12 pages in one night-I decided that evening that I was not going to get up until the darned thing was completed...I had too many other things that were more pressing, in my opinion. I compared theorists, and mentioned them to make it look good. Good luck!

What type of information have you been given in class about this assignment? Have they given you any guidelines as to what your statement should include? Do you have a textbook that discusses the topic? I always start (and finish) a class assignment by reviewing all the class materials that relate to the assignment. There are usually clues there as to what the instructor thinks is important.

I also think it is a good idea to look at the websites of schools etc. to get some ideas to consider.

I commend you on accepting what was said and for reposting. When I had to do a philosophy paper on nursing, it involved the ethical nursing prinicipals and ANA COE.

I know other posters have asked and I didn't see your answer...do you know what your paper is supposed to be centered around? We could help you better.

Take care
