Hello All,

I have a project due in pharmacology and I chose the topic of Drug abuse in the healthcare profession. I was wondering if anyone had any stories or input on this topic.

Have you ever experienced :

1. Working with anyone that has had a illegal drug habit?

2. Have you ever worked with or known of anyone that stole drugs from patients?

3. Have you ever worked as a healthcare professional under the infuence of drugs or ETOH?

4.If you have ever known of anyone being disciplined for ETOH or ellicit drug abuse by the BON?

5. Have you ever known anyone wrongly accused of stealing drugs ? ( i.e. Narc count wrong)

6. Has the BON been notified of wrong doing? If so, what type of punished did they receive?

7. For Nurse Professionals that may be reading this from a foreign country. How does your employer or BON handle drug abuse or theft in your country?

I really appreciate any input that you may add.

Thanks and have a blessed day,

Lori

I would also contact your BON because I bet the person in charge of this issue would be a valuable source of first hand information on the topic including what steps they take to rehab addicted nurses. Good luck, Jules

Thanks for viewing! I have contacted my BON, I am hoping to get nurse's to give their experience... Thanks
