oophorectomy

Is it normal to have some bruising on the abdomen after laproscopic removal of one of the ovaries, on the side of the ovary removed? VSS, no discharge or anything. Bruise showed up a day post-op. I imagine it is normal, since it is a surgery, but I don't have alot of experience with surgeries, and just was wodnerign some opinions.

The laparascope sites are made by first making a small incision with a scalpel, then the soft tissue is dissected down to the periotoneum. Finally, a trochar is literally shoved into the abdominal/pelvic cavity. It is not surprising that you would have some bruising around the area you inserted the instruments, since all the tissue you're going through is vascularized.

On the other hand, if you're worried about what you see, just call the physician and ask.

As a former patient the answer is yes and bruising lasted for a very long time.

Specializes in Cath Lab, OR, CPHN/SN, ER.

i work on a floor that does gyn/ortho/uro. i have seen many times where this happens after, even days. i had a pt call our floor a fews days after being discharged, she had a total normal and great recovery path and went home fine, but then that showed up and called us up. yup, no prob. but if it keeps getting bigger- increased pain; temp all that stuff we have ppl call.
