Has anyone ever ordered from those internet sites offering Viagra, diet medication such as Didrex and Meridia and Phentermine, and sleep aids? One fills out a form answering questions about her health, gives a credit card, and the doc issues an RX. The script is filled by some pharmacy somewhere and then it is fed-exed to your door. Isn't this illegal??????

I think it depends on the site. The process itself is legal, if somewhat shady. The "consultation" (i.e., the form people probably lie their asses off on) serves as the equivalent of a "doctor visit."
We got this question a lot when I worked as a pharmacy technician.

Be careful of those sites that promise miracle cures. Also beware of foreign pharmacies that say no Rx needed. The med may not be equivalent, may not even BE the right med...or in the case of a controlled substance may be downright illegal.
Now by foreign I do NOT include Canada or reputable pharmacies in Mexico.
I mentioned to an online friend once that tramadol was what I was Rx for a foot injury. He told me he could get me over 100 for about $3............I value my nursing license too much to be ordering controlled substances from the Phillipines.

It isn't illegal. However Nevada has bassed a law/leg that does not allow Nevada residents to do this. They have disclaimers that you have to agree to to buy the prescriptions. They expect that you are being honest in your medical questionaire and that you will follow up with your doctor. I just ordered a med tonight actually. You can get meds cheaper from other countries. Canada has reliable online pharmacies but you have to have a script before you order. Canadian sites do not allow for online MD conlutations.

Kinda scary...it brings to mind what grandma said. "If it sounds to good to be true then it probably is." I will drive to the pharm and pay thank you:)

I order all my drugs from an online pharmacy - but that is exactly what it is - a pharmacy. It is located in PA and must have a written (paper, not faxed) script and then will fill the script. In fct, my health insurance provider introduced me to the site.

I order all my meds online as well. The pharmacy I use is magendavidmeds. It requires that you submit a prescription before hand prior to ordering any meds. It is in essence a pharmacy as you are accustomed to rather it is online.

I really don't think as nurses, we need to be condoning this sort of activity.
We all know that medication needs to come from a face to face session with a licensed clinician.

Well, that's really funny, Dave, because on this very site there are ads for online pharmacies. I just saw some about a week ago...I couldn't believe these people were permitted to advertise here. I'm not talking about legit sites, either...I mean the ones where you can get "90 Vicodin for $X," etc.
I know this site needs advertisers to stay online, but really. What next, links to Media sites?

I agree that we should not condone this practice. I was shocked to see an ad at the bottom of this page for Meridia with no prior prescription necessary, and 'discreet service'.

Fab - that wasn't actually Brian's fault and as soon as he saw them he removed the Google ads from the pain management forum. If they pop- up again please let us know.
I didn't recall specifically blaming anyone. Thanks for the update.
