I applied for the 2009 NELRP. I did not expect to hear from HRSA until September (IF I received an award). However, I was contacted by HRSA yesterday (June 15, 2009). They asked me to obtain pay off... Read More

OK, I have to quit reading the posts because I am driving myself crazy. When we received the phone call in mid June asking to get loan payoff amounts, I thought that was a good sign. Haven't heard a thing since then. Never got a call to verify bank info etc. I am so worried now. All the guys my husband works with haven't been contacted at all (hopefully that is still good for us). I need PRAYERS!! I am so very worried!!

I totally hear you. I also thought that I was in pretty good shape after getting the email and phone call, but now that I haven't gotten the email with the contracts I am officially freaking out! Sending hope and good wishes your way...

Nursebreeze~~~~the email that you received, was it to verify your loan payoff amounts? Did you ever receive the email/phone call to verify your address, bank info? I'm grasping at straws here trying to figure this thing out without going bonkers!!

Hey, I too received an email on July 27th to fax over my loan payoff amounts. I'm praying that we all get the award..I was so excited!! But if you look back to the 2008 blogs, not all the people who were emailed/called about the loan payoff amounts did receive the award, so I don't think it is a guarantee. It seems crazy though if they wanted to verify the payoff amounts that they wouldn't be giving you the award. It does seem like a guarantee that if you received a call about verifying employment, banking info that it is a pretty sure bet from what I read. But a lot of the people last year didn't even receive a verification call until september..and like you guys said, some people awarded, didn't receive any contact. Maybe it depends on who your rep is..maybe they all do it differently. I don't know? And it seems like they are running it a little different this year. So who knows? Good luck to everyone! Ever since I got that email, I can't stop thinking about it now..it would be such a huge help to me.

well, this is totally depressing. I just found this thread - I haven't received a phone call, email.... nothing Does this mean I'm out?? Someone said that last year people who received the award were never contacted?? fingers crossed

Are you sure they received your application and the information was complete. I would call and make sure the paperwork was received. I read several messages from the past that paperwork was not received. Anyway, keep your fingers cross. You would think with all the money that is set aside for this, we should all get a taste of the good life. I wish you the best of luck and fingers crossed.

SUMDAE~~ I feel your pain, but don't fret yet!! We were contacted last year, but did not receive an award. This whole process is crazy. I was contacted mid June this go 'round for payoff amounts, but haven't heard a single thing since then. Many others have been contacted to verify bank accounts etc., and even to sign contracts. I haven't heard a thing about either. It is very depressing. We all need to stay positive. Keep us all posted and good luck!!

No I did not get an additional email after the payoff one. I have tried to confirm that the fax was even recieved and have not recieved an email about that either , so I'm thinking they are just so overwhelmed with all the applicants that they are behind, at least I hope that is what it is. I am still holding out hope and lots of prayers that I get a contract, oh the burdens this would lift...Good luck all!!

I have spoken to a few nurses that were fortunate enough to get funded in the last couple of years. The process takes time, not only because of the amount of applicants but, incomplete and inaccurate information provided during the application process takes time to fix as well. The 2009 NELRP Application Bulletin, provided detailed information on what information was required for a "complete" application. Although, some required documents were not explained thoroughly enough, which then requires follow-up before moving on in the application review process. The nurses I spoke to did not receive phone calls or e-mails regarding information that should have been provided before the deadline. I have not received any correspondence regarding the information I personally provided in my application. I am not sure if I should worry.... because it doesn't sound like the contacts are related to the actual funding. It is very frustrating to have to wait soooooo long to find out yes or no! I think there should be some kind of updates...even if it is where we fall into the funding preference based on our submitted information (ie. debt:income, facility designation, etc).

Nursebreeze..I too received an email to verify pay off amounts on July 27th and faxed everything over immediately. Did the analyst give you a phone number to call? I called to confirmed that they received my information. Maybe you should try calling instead of email to verify they received everything. but I'm sure they did..they are probably extremely busy with the process.

KnRodgers...I agree, some people who were awarded in previous years were never contacted. I did provide all the loan information in my application so I'm not exactly sure why they need to verify my payoff amounts. I wouldn't be worried-- everything seems inconsistent. Some people who were contacted received awards and some people who had no contact received awards as well so it doesn't mean its a bad thing if you have not received any contact. The person who contacted me was the analyst reviewing my application..so I don't even know what that means exactly..haha.. I received no contact last year and no award either..it was depressing...Either way, I guess we will all find out september/october..and I think we all have something in common here, we are stressed in the mean time but it will be a blessing if we get it!

Okay everyone...check your emails. I received this email today with 2 contracts to sign and fax back. Here is what the email says:

On February 17, President Obama signed into law the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act ("Recovery Act") of 2009. The Recovery Act provides substantial additional funding for the Nursing Education Loan Repayment Program (NELRP).
Due to the availability of the additional funds, the Bureau of Clinician Recruitment and Service expects to be able to assist in the recruitment and retention of a significantly larger number of RNs dedicated to providing health care in facilities with a critical shortage of nurses or considering a career in such facilities.

You have been identified as a possible recipient of a Recovery Act award. If you want to be considered for a NELRP Recovery Act award, complete the attached form, sign the NELRP Recovery Act contract, and fax both items within 24 hours of the date of this notice to:

I'm hoping this is a good sign, but you know how the government is. Anything is possible!! I definately thanked God when this email came across!! Has anyone else heard anything?
