Need advise!!

Hello everyone!!

I recently graduated with my BSN and already have my RN license. I got an offer from HealthSouth with a rate of $27/hr non-negotiable. I have 4 years of LVN in rehab/long term care and have held two charge nurse positions. I am not sure how much I should be expecting to get paid but $27/hr seems very low for the Dallas area. I was getting $24/hr as an LVN. Thanks for helping!

That's a competitive new grad RN pay rate in Dallas. Keep in mind that most local hospital systems are paying new RNs in the $23 to $26 hourly range.

I was an LVN for several years before earning my RN licensure in 2010. My final LVN pay rate was $27/hr at a nursing home in Fort Worth. HealthSouth offered me $25/hr as a new grad RN in 2010. They counted my 4 years of LVN experience when making the offer...new grad RNs with no LVN experience were offered $23/hr.

We've been spoiled due to receiving great pay rates as LVNs. However, you must face the reality that you are now a new grad RN and most local workplaces will pay you accordingly. Good luck to you.

Thank you! I was hoping to get at least $30/hr but HR told me they consider me a new grad with no experience, so you are right, it's like i have to start all over but this time with my RN license

$27/hr sounds low to me. When I got my A.A.S. and my first RN position eight years ago in San Antonio, I started at a few pennies less than $30/hr. I thought Dallas' cost of living was higher than San Antonio's.

When I graduated in San Antonio six years ago, the going rate for new grad RNs was $21.00 ...and it was actually lowered to $20.00 shortly after that. LVN experience "didn't count".

News grads were being turned out at a pretty good rate at that time, so even though work was still somewhat easy to find, the pay was decreasing. After two years, I was making $27.50. They do try to hold on to you once you have some experience (that counts).
