#4 of 6, 3rd daughter. Niether parents drink or smoke. Mom and her sister both flunked out of nursing school. Had 2 great aunts one on each side of the family that were RN's. They were my inspirations. Neither of them were 1st born and we come from a long line of tee- totalers

8th born, 6th female, no alcoholics in my family that I am aware of. I am the only nurse in the family and was always the "nurturing caretaker" of the group. My family did have a dysfunctional quality about it. Much verbal, emotional and physical abuse from my father.
I was also told in nursing school that nurses are always from dysfunctional backgrounds. Something about accepting a "servitude" role in life. Ask my hubby if I assume a "servitude" role, LOL!!!!!

An only child, so I guess that does make me 1st born. No alcoholism in my parents. My aunt was an alcoholic, but my parents pretty much kept me away from her for the most part. I was, however, a latch-key kid starting at the age of 6 or 7 and felt like I raised myself to work-a-holic parents.
