Loss of all personal freedom.

Published

I am just wondering but as a veteran who fought for his country. Then went to college to become a nurse. How does everyone feel about the loss of personal freedom in healthcare. Hospitals that test for legal substances in the blood (i.e. nicotine) and deny employment. Even in states that workers are protected because hospitals are " non profit" even though we all know they are for profit as you can get cause your CEO drives a jaguar. Denying employment to workers they consider obese and overweight. What are we going to do as Americans and Nurses when they test us for artificial flavorings and sugar products and deny employment. This trend will not stop. The slippery slope has begun.

Correct.

"In 1960, when I came out of prison as an ex-convict, I had more freedom under parolee supervision than there's available to an average citizen in America right now... God almighty, what have we done to each other?" ~ Merle Haggard, an American country singer

The youth doesn't know what freedom means. They are too accustomed to being bound to know the difference.

Except the Voting Rights Act which made poll taxes and literacy tests illegal wasn't passed until 1965.

Betty Friedan didn't publish The Feminine Mystique - which detailed the repression of women outside of the domestic sphere - until 1963.

Kent State was in 1970.

Surprised to hear this post from someone in the military. Sounds very political.

If an employer doesn't want to hire you because you failed your drug test or you weigh 500lbs it's their choice.

I take it the OP is not a fan of being in a 'right to work' state.

It's not a "right to work" state where every one has a right to work regardless of Union affiliation. The term you are looking for is "At Will Employment state" in which an employer can choose to hire or fire someone for no reason whatsoever. It is then up to the employee to contest if they feel they can prove discrimination based on being in a protected class.

Actually patients are about 28% less likely to quit smoking if their healthcare provider smokes

That's true. However, how many people think of "good" skin heads when mentioned?

I'm willing to bet not many.

Racist Skinhead | Southern Poverty Law Center

Well, I can think of at least one prominent man who might say that there are good people on both sides.

Please do not confuse skin-head for neo-Nazi, different subcultures. Some skinheads may be neo-Nazis but not all and definitely not the majority. Most are apolitical but there is a very large group who are far left anarchists, socialists, or even anti-fascist.

Just as the Black Panthers and socialists have become more centrist and accepted in society I can foresee one day the neo-Nazis leveling out and being accepted.

Sounds crazy now but could you imagine what someone would have said about communists in the 50s or 60s?

Did you really just compare Black Panthers and socialists to neo-nazis? How are they even on the same level when one is the result of being oppressed and murdered without impunity, while also being treated as though they're subhuman. The other is somewhere in the middle of trying to do what's right while being semi selfish. Then you have neo-nazis who don't like anyone who doesn't have the same skin tone as them, hate the government, and are often prone to all out anarchy, up to and including death. Yet you put them all in the same basket. Amazing!

Nicotine gum will adversely impact my ability to practice? I think not...this is a combo morals clause and we do not want to insure you clause.

And weight is off limits being legally protected? Nicotine is more addictive than carbs.
