Looking for an NRP course...

Hi all,

I'm a nursing student trying to increase my chances of getting the preceptorship I really want. I'm looking for a neonatal resuscitation program, but am having a surprisingly hard time finding one. Does anyone know of a website where I could find a course? I'm in San Francisco.

Thanks!

Is this what you're looking for?

This is from the AAP website. Click on "find a course." Check "provider" and enter "CA." I see a class on 4/14 in Dublin and on 4/16 in Petaluma.

You can also search for hospitals by simply choosing California. There is a ton of info there.

Where I work, we have the text books and two nurses who are certified trainers in NRP. We do our own studying, they give us the tests and then we have to take the practical with one of them as well. We do this every two years (which I believe is the standard).

Why not check with the hospitals in your area (check with the particular departments of L&D/PP/NSY) and see where their nurses go to get and maintain their NRP certifications.

Check w/educational depts/nurses at local hospitals. They can point you to classes you can attend/find. Good luck and way to go---you are a go-getter.

Our nurses have 6 months to take the NRP class. In that time, they are supposed to attend normal deliveries, to get some hands-on experience with babies.

I think it would be hard to take NRP without that experience, so it's probably not necessary for you to take it before you get your internship.

Thanks for the info!
